NEW YORK - JAN. 6, 2016 - Extraordinary teens "help and lead others" (HALO) in Nickelodeon's brand-new pro-social docu-series, The HALO Effect, premiering Monday, Jan. 18, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), Martin Luther King, Jr. Day--widely known as a day of service. Each 30-minute episode will highlight a teen who is making a positive change in their community and inspiring others to do the same. Airing monthly on Nickelodeon, the series is hosted by Sydney Park (Instant Mom) and produced by Nick Cannon's NCredible Entertainment and Morgan Spurlock's Warrior Poets.

In the premiere episode, "A Place to Sleep," 16-year-old Jessica Collins from Shelbyville, Ky., helps disadvantaged families in need of beds and bedding. Collins was inspired by the film The Blind Side, and the realization that there are kids who don't have a bed, to start her non-profit organization A Place to Sleep when she was 10 years old. With the help of her church, family and the generous contributions of local residents who donate funds, beds and their time, A Place to Sleep has provided more than 750 families with bed frames, mattresses and bedding. In recognition of her dedicated service, Nickelodeon's The HALO Effect will award a $10,000 grant to Collins' organization.

In each episode of The HALO Effect, the profiled teen will issue a "HALO Effect Challenge," a call-to-action encouraging inspired viewers to participate in their cause and join the HALO movement. As part of Collins' "HALO Effect Challenge," she is encouraging everyone to take a pajama selfie to bring awareness to this issue and also urging them to help people in need in their community. Kids and families can visit www.salvationarmyusa.org/halo for fun ways to get involved.

The HALO Effect launched in 2013 as a year-round initiative recognizing one deserving teen every month for their work to help and lead others in their community. The initiative was built upon Nickelodeon's HALO Awards, an annual concert event honoring young community leaders with a grant for their organization and scholarship funds. To date, more than 50 teens across the country have been honored and have received more than $400,000 in grants to fund their non-profit organizations.

The HALO Effect series expands Nickelodeon's ongoing commitment to the HALO movement by giving an in-depth look into the inspirational stories of teens who are eager to share the issues and projects important to them and excited to engage others to achieve impact. The series is executive produced by Nick Cannon and NCredible Entertainment, as well as Morgan Spurlock, Richard Arlook, Jeremy Chilnick, Matthew Galkin and Ethan Goldman of Warrior Poets.

Nickelodeon, now in its 36th year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The company includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, online, recreation, books and feature film offerings. Nickelodeon's U.S. television network is seen in almost 100 million households and has been the number-one-rated basic cable network for 20 consecutive years. Nickelodeon and all related titles, characters and logos are trademarks of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIA, VIAB).

"Blaze and the Monster Machines" Zooms Onto LeapFrog Imagicard

LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. has added Nick Jr.'s hit preschool series Blaze and the Monster Machines to the Learning Library of its all-new Imagicard! The addition brings 30 new character and curricular cards to life onscreen through AR technology, allowing children to roar into magical gaming action.

Aimed at three to five-year-olds, LeapFrog Imagicard Blaze and the Monster Machines encourages little ones to use STEM skills to win races and save the day in 18 high-octane missions. Children can join Blaze and AJ as they race through the Monster Dome and other show locations to help friends in need. Using number knowledge to hit just the right speed, children smash through obstacles by choosing the right amount of force and use trajectory to collect golden tires. The included interactive cards can be used to transform Blaze into a kite, sprinkler or even a wrecking ball to save the day.

Like other Learning Library games, Blaze and the Monster Machines features LeapFrog's proprietary Just For Me Learning Technology, which personalises the experience for each child by adapting automatically during play, offering tutorials and more to keep kids challenged.

More than 50 monster trivia questions are included to add to the fun and little ones can take selfies with Blaze and his big-wheeled friends. It also comes with a tin for easy storage and a play mat for card sorting and offline games. Compatible with all LeapFrog LeapPad tablets - with the exception of LeapPad1 - all 30+ cards are also digitally included in the game, so children can still play the full game while on the go.

"We are delighted to add Blaze and the Monster Machines to our Imagicard family," said Gail Fisher, UK & EMEAA Content and Licensing Manager at LeapFrog. "It's a hot new property on Nick Jr. and also our first STEM title for LeapPad. STEM education has been identified as a major priority by the government for developing a strong supply of future scientists, engineers, technologists and mathematicians.

"It's a thrilling action packed game that truly comes to life with the help of the interactive cards, creating a magical and immersive experience for children."

With the addition of this title, there are now four LeapFrog Imagicard games – all designed or approved by LeapFrog's team of learning experts.

The first preschool show on TV to comprehensively cover all areas of STEM in every episode, Blaze and the Monster Machines follows the amazing monster truck Blaze and his eight-year-old driver AJ and builds upon Nick Jr.'s legacy of providing curriculum-enriched preschool programming.

With the help of the audience at home, Blaze and AJ have adventures that explore the physics of how things move; tackle problems through scientific inquiry and mathematics; and discover the component parts needed to make everyday technologies work. Each action-packed episode is filled with monster trucks, physical humor and upbeat original songs with lyrics that highlight a STEM concept such as adhesion, friction, force, trajectory and magnetism. The series is created by Jeff Borkin ("Team Umizoomi" head writer) and Ellen Martin ("Bubble Guppies" supervising producer).

Blaze and the Monster Machines launched in the USA in October 2014 and in March 2015 in the UK. The series airs regularly on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels around the world.
