First Look: Tony Hawk 'Excited' for Guest Starring Role on Nickelodeon's 'The Casagrandes'

Tony Hawk is riding his skateboard into The Casagrandes for a guest spot on the brand new episode "Skaters Gonna Hate", premiering Friday, Jan. 14 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT! Hawk has a big part in the episode as Ronnie Anne and her friends ask Carlos X to coach against him. In a super sneak peek of the new episode, courtesy of PopCulture.com, Carlos goes to extreme measures to see what Tony is doing. The Casagrandes is a spinoff of The Loud House and was developed by Michael Rubiner and Miguel Puga.

In the new episode, Ronnie Anne Santiago (Izabella Alvarez) asks her uncle Carlos (Carlos Alazraqui) to coach her skateboard team with her friends, since Carlos was a skateboarding star in college. He even had a nickname, Carlos X, given to him by his friends. Ronnie Anne's rival skate team is now being coached by Hawk, whom Carlos believes sabotaged his career. In reality, the animated Hawk is just as good-natured as the real Hawk and plays by the rules.

Hawk told PopCulture.com that being on the show was not only a humbling moment for him but one he really appreciated thanks to his kids being big fans. "I consider skateboarding a sport and art form, and a lifestyle that has shaped my identity. My career has given me a unique opportunity to travel extensively and share my passion to new audiences across the globe," Hawk said. "My kids and I love Nickelodeon, so I am excited to now voice my animated self in The Casagrandes, where skateboarding is embraced in the show."

The Casagrandes centers on Ronnie Anne Santiago, who moved to Great Lakes City with her brother Bobby (Carlos PenaVega) and her mother Maria (Sumalee Montano). She is now living near her extended family, including her grandparents Hector (Ruben Garfias) and Rosa (Sonia Manzano), her aunt Frida (Roxana Ortega) and uncle Carlos, and her cousins Carlota, C.J., Carl, and Carlitos. Rubiner is executive producer and Puga serves as co-executive producer. Award-winning cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz is a consulting producer.

The Casagrandes launched on Nickelodeon in October 2019. The show was nominated for Outstanding Children's Animated Series and won Outstanding Main Title for an Animated Program at the 2020 Daytime Emmy Awards. Ronnie Anne and her family were introduced in The Loud House. Both The Loud House and The Casagrandes are available to stream on Paramount+.

Hawk, 53, is one of the best-known skateboarders on the planet and has 10 Summer X Games gold medals. He also has a skateboarding video game series that carries his name, with the latest game, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 being released in September 2020. Hawk has made dozens of cameos in shows and movies, including several Nickelodeon shows and specials, such as Rocket PowerNick News with Linda Ellerbee, and Ryan's Mystery PlaydateCrashletesKids' Choice Sports, and Kids' Choice Awards, earning multiple Blimp awards along the way. The skateboarder even competed on The Masked Singer in 2020.

In “Skaters Gonna Hate,” Hawk voices a world-famous, pro-skater, conveniently named Tony Hawk, who is now the coach of Ronnie Anne’s (Izabella Alvarez) rival skate team, but back in the day he used to skate with Carlos X — Tio Carlos’s (Carlos Alezraqui) nickname from his skater days! Even though Carlos is clearly threatened by the skate-star, believing that Hawk sabotaged him years ago, Tony is a good-natured team player who plays by the rules.

Jace Norman Signs Overall Deal With Nickelodeon to Develop, Exec Produce and Star in Original Content for ViacomCBS

JACE NORMAN SIGNS OVERALL DEAL WITH NICKELODEON
TO DEVELOP, EXECUTIVE PRODUCE AND STAR
IN ORIGINAL CONTENT FOR VIACOMCBS

First Project Under Pact is an Original Henry Danger Live-Action Movie
for Paramount+ to Begin Production This Year

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—Jan. 13, 2022—Nickelodeon, the number-one kids’ network, and AwesomenessTV, the Gen Z studio from ViacomCBS, today announced it has signed an overall deal with actor and executive producer Jace Norman (Henry Danger). Nickelodeon will work with Norman and his production company, Starlight, to develop, executive produce and star in new and original content for ViacomCBS companies, including Nickelodeon Studios, Awesomeness Studios, Paramount+ and other ViacomCBS platforms.

As part of the partnership, Norman will reprise his role as “Henry Hart/Kid Danger” in a new, original live-action movie for Paramount+, based off Nickelodeon’s hit series Henry Danger. Start of production and cast will be announced shortly.

Norman starred as superhero sidekick “Henry Hart/Kid Danger” in Henry Danger, Nickelodeon’s longest running live-action sitcom, which aired from 2014-2020 across five seasons and 128 episodes. In its final season, the series was the number-one show for kids 6-11 on all TV.

During his time starring in Henry Danger, Norman also starred in numerous Nickelodeon projects, including the hour-long Henry Danger The Musical special, which scored the biggest L3 lift in Nickelodeon series history with 2.2 million views across all three days; the feature-length TV movies Splitting Adam, Rufus, Rufus 2, Blurt and Bixler High Private Eye, which he also executive produced; and as an animated “Henry Hart/Kid Danger” in Nickelodeon’s animated Henry Danger spinoff series, The Adventures of Kid Danger.

Norman currently serves as a producer on the live-action Henry Danger spinoff series Danger Force which was the number-one live-action show on cable for the year with K6-11 in 2021. Danger Force is in its second season and airs on Thursdays at 7 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.

About Nickelodeon

Nickelodeon, now in its 42nd year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The brand includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, digital, location-based experiences, publishing and feature films. For more information or artwork, visit http://www.nickpress.com. Nickelodeon and all related titles, characters and logos are trademarks of ViacomCBS Inc. (Nasdaq: VIACA, VIAC).

About Awesomeness

Awesomeness, a subsidiary of ViacomCBS, is a media company focused on serving the global Gen Z audience through its digital publishing, film and television studio divisions. Approaching its 10th year anniversary, Awesomeness has become the destination for youth culture, cultivating a loyal audience with hit programming on the world’s biggest streaming services including Netflix (smash-hit film series “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” Emmy® winner “Trinkets”) and Hulu (Emmy® winner “Zac & Mia”, Emmy® nominee “Pen15”),  along with the company’s immensely popular short-form programs on YouTube (“Twin My Heart,” “Noah Beck Tries Things,” “AwesomenessTV’s Next Influencer,” “Brent Rivera’s Dream Vacation,” “My Dream QuinceaƱera,”), that garner hundreds of millions of views. As a leading media brand, Awesomeness’ worldwide distribution footprint spans owned, social and premium SVOD platforms. Founded in 2012, Awesomeness is headquartered in Los Angeles, with additional offices in New York.

“This is really my first step to getting to fulfill my dream of getting behind the camera and actually creating shows, as opposed to just acting,” Norman told Variety in an interview. “I love acting and I’ve been with Nickelodeon for a while, but I’ve always wanted to kind of be able to create my own shows.” Norman says he approached Brian Robbins, the ViacomCBS executive who oversees Nickelodeon and Awesomeness, as well as the Paramount movie operations, and asked for help getting into writing and producing. “I’m really in the learning phase right now,” Norman acknowledges, noting that “it’s a whole new adventure.”

Keeping Norman affiliated with Nickelodeon is likely of new importance as ViacomCBS continues to place emphasis on streaming. While big-budget dramas often grab the headlines when it comes to streaming video, most executives will tell you that programming that appeals to young audiences is of great significance to operators of new broadband hubs. If kids gravitate toward particular streaming shows, their choices can play a factor in what subscriptions are purchased and the length of time they are maintained. As Wall Street puts new pressure on media companies to continue to show growth in streaming subscriptions, all the companies are looking for ways to tamp down so-called customer “churn.”

With that in mind, Paramount Plus has hosted a number of extensions of some of Nickelodeon’s most popular properties, including movies based on SpongeBob SquarePants and Paw Patrol. Under Robbins, Nickelodeon has put new focus on broadening its best-known programs into audiences for various venues.

Norman says he has been working with the writers of the series and “it’s like my family. Going back there feels nice, just to do one episode and go in and out.”

He’d like to try his hand at a range of genres. He’s a big fan of the various Indiana Jones movies as well as the Netflix teen-mystery series Outer Banks. “I also hope to break into some young adult stuff, some romantic comedies, along with creating original stuff I’m really passionate about,” he says.

"I can't believe I get to play a character in the show and live my childhood dream!!!" the singer told VIBE.

In the midst of making her acting debut, H.E.R. is first taking her talents to the animated silver screen.

The acclaimed R&B singer will guest star on an episode of the hit Nickelodeon children’s series, Blue’s Clues & You! airing on Friday (Jan. 14), for which VIBE has an exclusive clip of her appearance (above). Performing as a full force, entertaining Tyrannosaurus Rex, she sings a catchy tune showcasing her dinosaur knowledge.

On her guest role, the Oscar winner shared exclusively with VIBE, “Blue’s Clues was one of my favorite shows growing up. I can’t believe I get to play a character in the show and live my childhood dream!!!”

In the episode entitled, “Blue’s Dino Clues,” current host, Josh Dela Cruz and our beloved pup, Blue, discover a mysterious dinosaur egg that starts to hatch as they play a prehistoric game of Blue’s Clues. They scurry into Dino World to find out what kind of dinosaur is inside, so it can be reunited with its family. It’s there they meet T-Rex.

In an exclusive descriptor shared with VIBE from Nickelodeon, “[T-Rex is] the queen of the dinosaurs and the microphone! [She] is the original multi-hyphenate [as] the first female singer, songwriter, producer, dancer and actress of prehistoric times. She can hit the high notes and the low ones too with pure ease in her melodious, powerful voice. She’s got a wealth of knowledge to accompany her pipes and loves to share dinosaur facts with everyone. T-Rex may have tiny arms, but she has a voice and a heart of gold!”

Blue’s Clues & You! features new CG animation for iconic puppies, Blue and Magenta, plus a modern take on items from the original series including a new Handy Dandy Notebook equipped with smartphone technology and the return of fan-favorite characters.
