Orange Partners With Paramount+ in France

Orange and Paramount+, the SVoD service from Paramount, have announced a partnership to distribute Paramount+ to Orange customers in France beginning on December 1st, to coincide with the launch of the service in the country.

Through this partnership, Orange TV subscribers with a TV4 or UHD set-top box can subscribe to Paramount+ from their Orange UI to access thousands of hours of content on their TV screen and connected devices, including new and exclusive Paramount+ Originals such as 1883, The Offer and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as well as Tulsa King starring Sylvester Stallone (which will be available in 2023). Celebrated shows like PAW PatrolNCIS and FBI, and popular movies including A Quiet Place II and The Godfather will also be available, offering something across every genre from Paramount’s brands and studios, including Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, SHOWTIME and the Smithsonian Channel.

“I am thrilled with this partnership with Paramount, which enriches our content offering with prestigious shows for all audiences. It is a perfect fit with our desire to bring our customers access to the best services through an integrated and simplified experience,” said Guillaume Lacroix, Director of Products and Services, Orange France.

“This strategic partnership will grant Paramount+ access to new audiences and generate greater visibility to ultimately accelerate subscriber growth,” added Marco Nobili, Executive Vice President and International General Manager of Paramount+. “We have a diversified streaming strategy and partnerships are key to our continued expansion. We are proud to partner with Orange to deliver Paramount+’s unique content offering to more customers in France.”

From December 1st, new internet Fiber and ADSL Orange customers can receive 6 months of promotional access to the new Paramount+ streaming service at no extra cost, then €7.99 per month thereafter.

As an Xmas promotion, Orange will offer to its new customers its Livebox Fibre Internet + TV offer at €22.99 per month for 12 months with the option to include Paramount+ for 6 months. After 12 months, the price of the internet offer is €41.99 per month.

Paramount+ France will also integrated in pay TV platform Canal+’s new Ciné-Séries and Friends & Family packages, as well as from connected TVs and streaming devices including those from Apple, Amazon, Google, Roku and Samsung, priced at €7.99 ($8).

Canal+ is the only player to offer Paramount+ as part of a ‘hard bundle’ and will also be the exclusive distributor of the service in French-speaking Switzerland.

The service will be offered as part of Canal+’s packages on what the pay TV provider described as “very advantageous terms” to subscribers.

The new streamer can be accessed via the myCanal OTT service and via the set-tops of France’s ISPs and Canal+’s own decoders.

“We are very proud to launch Paramount+ in France, the only streaming service where you will be find Sylvester Stallone, SpongeBob SquarePants and Harrison Ford in the same place alongside iconic titles such as Star Trek, South Park, Halo and recent and classic films that have made their mark on world cinema,” said Nobili.

Nickelodeon UK Now Wholly Owned By Paramount Global

Nickelodeon UK, including its associated channels Nick Jr., Nick Jr. Too, and Nicktoons in the UK and Ireland, is now wholly owned by Paramount Global, Nickelodeon U.K. Limited's end-of-year  financial report for 2021 has revealed.

Nickelodeon UK launched in September 1993 as a 50/50 joint-venture between Viacom International Media and BSkyB Networks (British Sky Broadcasting). During the business year of 30th June 2005-30th June 2006, Nickelodeon UK acquired an additional 10% stake from BSky, making them the majority stakeholder and giving them more control over how the channel is operated.

Before late 2022, Sky's 40% share in Nickelodeon UK Ltd. was managed by a Sky UK subsidiary named Kidsprog Ltd. which was established in 1992 as a holding company for Sky's investment in Nickelodeon UK, notes the RegularCapital Audiovisual Research Wiki.

However, according to Nickelodeon UK Ltd's latest financial records, Sky Plc Limited sold their 40% stake in Nickelodeon UK on 31st October 2022, with Nickelodeon U.K. Limited becoming a 100%-owned subsidiary of Paramount Global (formally Viacom/ViacomCBS), with it's shares split between two companies:

Nickelodeon Huggings U.K. Limited - 80%
Nickelodeon UK Holdings LLC - 20%

It is thought that Sky sold their stake in Nickelodeon in a bid to launch Sky Kids, the company's own linear kids channel, in 2023, something that the JV with Nickelodeon is thought to have prevented in the past.

Up until late 2022, Lucy Murphy, The Head of Sky's children's division, and Mark Winterbottom, Director of Sky Channel Distribution used to sit on Nickelodeon UK's board alongside Paramount staff such as Jules Borkent, VP of Programming at Nickelodeon International, Maria Kyriacou, President of Paramount Global Networks International (UK and Australia), and Sarah Rose, Chief Operating and Commercial Officer at Paramount Global UK.

Although currently unconfirmed, it is thought that the change in stakes is the reason why some Nickelodeon channels are changing transponders at the moment.
