BANFF, AB and TORONTO, June 9, 2025 -- Paramount+ in Canada today announced it will be the exclusive Canadian home of THE PINK PILL, the untold story of the fight for a female Viagra and equal access to sexual medicine. Billed by producers as "a wildly entertaining romp into the world of sex and science," the original documentary feature is set to debut on Paramount+ in Canada in fall 2025.

Created by Abby Greensfelder's Everywoman Studios, THE PINK PILL explores the taboo subject of women's sexual health through the lens of the trailblazers — and opponents — who have fought relentlessly against the male-focused medical establishment to make female pleasure a priority. The film reveals the many ways women have been sidelined when it comes to their enjoyment of sex, including the story of a libido-boosting solution, or a 'little pink pill', for women facing endless roadblocks in a market saturated with FDA-approved drugs for men's sexual pleasure — but almost nothing for women.

'The Pink Pill' director

THE PINK PILL is directed by award-winning Montreal-based filmmaker Aisling Chin-Yee (No Ordinary Man, The Rest of Us, Plan B) who brings her astute creative vision to this first project from Docs for Change, a collaboration between Catalyst, the Toronto-based studio for woman-identifying creators, and Knix Fund, a philanthropic arm of the game-changing intimates brand Knix. Launched at the 2023 Banff World Media Festival, the initiative supports the development and production of women-centric feature documentaries that embody the principles at the core of both the Knix and Catalyst brands: to create more opportunities for women by amplifying their voices and inspiring change.

Vanessa Case, VP, Content, Paramount+ and Pluto TV in Canada, said: "THE PINK PILL doesn't just tell a story — it challenges perspectives, sparks conversation, and puts a spotlight on the challenges women face within the healthcare sector. We are proud to be the home of the first project from Docs for Change and to bring this bold film to screens across Canada, introducing viewers to a powerful story that sheds light on the deep-rooted inequities in women's health."

Director of 'The Pink Pill'

Julie Bristow, Founder of Catalyst, said: "We launched the Docs for Change initiative two years ago at Banff and are excited to bring this inaugural film to Canadian audiences on Paramount+ Canada. It shows what can be accomplished when you bring together a group of women dedicated to financing and producing commercially-driven stories that otherwise might not get told."

Abby Greensfelder, Founder and CEO of Everywoman Studios, said: "With THE PINK PILL, we set out to pull back the curtain on a story that's as outrageous as it is overdue — a story about power, stigma, and the systemic silence around women's sexual health. We're proud to partner with Catalyst and Knix through Docs for Change to bring this story to light, and thrilled to work with Paramount+ Canada to make sure it's seen, heard, and talked about."

Joanna Griffiths, Founder and President of Knix, said: "At Knix, we've always believed that women's health stories deserve to be heard — loudly, unapologetically, and without shame. THE PINK PILL is a bold, necessary step toward dismantling the stigma around female sexual health and demanding better from a system that has overlooked women for far too long. We're incredibly proud to support this project through the Knix Fund and help bring these conversations to the forefront."

THE PINK PILL is produced by Catalyst and Everywoman Studios, with Sphere Media providing production services and Sphere Abacus handling global distribution. Executive producers are Julie Bristow, Abby Greensfelder, Vibika Bianchi, Joanna Griffiths and Aisling Chin-Yee.

Paramount Animation Developing 'I Eat Poop: A Dung Beetle Story' Movie With Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort; Josh Cooley In Talks to Direct

Paramount Animation is developing a I Eat Poop: A Dung Beetle Story movie based on the popular children’s book by Mark Pett, with Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort producing under their first-look deal with the Melrose Ave. lot. The news was first reported by Deadline.

Josh Cooley, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind Toy Story 4, is adapting and in talks to direct.

Also producing are EGOT-winning songmakers Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (Lyle Lyle Crocodile, La La Land) via their production company Ampersand. The duo previously worked with Maximum Effort on ditties for the Apple Original Film Spirited starring Reynolds and Will Farrell.

I Eat Poop follows dung beetle Dougie who starts at a new school in a new town. There he struggles to hide who he is—and what he eats. But when a series of mysterious disappearances plagues the town, Dougie and his whole community discover that what makes them different…might just be what makes them heroes.

Per Macmillan:

In the vein of Please Don’t Eat Me and We Don’t Eat Our Classmates, I Eat Poop by Mark Pett is a heartwarming and hilarious picture book about friendship, fitting in and accepting each other’s differences.

Dougie has a secret: he’s not a ground beetle. He’s a dung beetle, and he loves eating poop.

Dougie knows he should be proud. Dung beetles help process waste and do other extraordinary things! But Dougie also knows that if anyone at school saw his lunch, he’d be an outcast.

One day, the lunchroom bugs out over a classmate eating poop, and Dougie must make a choice. Can he stand up for his friend — and for his true self?

Brad Butler is overseeing the project for Paramount Animation.

Additional projects in development with Maximum Effort include Boy Band, Starter Villain, Eloise, Reality Vice, and Untitled Conspiracy Thriller, along with a Mighty Mouse movie with Paramount Animation.

Cooley began his career at Pixar, contributing to The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Up. He co-wrote Inside Out (2015), earning an Oscar nomination, and made his directorial debut with 2019’s Toy Story 4 which not only won Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, but also grossed over $1.07 billion. In 2020, he wrote screenplays for Universal, Sony Pictures, and Disney. Most recently, he directed Transformers One last year for Paramount which made over $129M worldwide.

Pett is also the award-winning author and illustrator of I’m Not Millie!, This Is My Book, Lizard From the Park, The Boy and the Airplane, The Girl and the Bicycle, and The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes. His books have sold over a half a million copies and have been translated into ten languages. Before books, he was a political cartoonist in Prague, created the syndicated comic strips Mr. Lowe and Lucky Cow. He holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest comic strip. A former sixth grade teacher and current professional poker player, he lives with his family in the Mountain West. He is repped by CAA on behalf of Kerry Sparks of Levine Greenberg Rostan Literary Agency.

Cooley is represented by CAA, Jeff Silver at Untitled, and Peter Sample and Ryan Levine at Jackoway.

Pasek & Paul are represented by CAA, Kraft-Engel Management, and Schreck, Rose, Dapello, Adams, and Berlin & Dunham.

'Pee-wee's Playhouse' Now Available On-Demand on Pluto TV UK

Pluto TV, the world's leading FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) service from Paramount Global, has added Pee-wee's Playhouse to its programming library in the U.K., with four seasons of the cult-favourite '80s and '90s children's series, which aired on Nickelodeon UK's Nick Jr. programming block in the mid-90s, now available to stream on-demand! Keep a lookout for the Secret Word of the day!

Pee-wee's Playhouse

Created by the late, great Paul Reubens, Pee-wee's Playhouse is an American comedy children's television series starring Reubens as the childlike Pee-wee Herman that ran from 1986 to 1990 on Saturday mornings on CBS. In each episode, Pee-wee Herman invites viewers into his quirky, childlike world. In addition to Reubens, the series starred Laurence Fishburne as Cowboy Curtis, Lynne Marie Stewart as Miss Yvonne, Phil Hartman as Captain Carl, S. Epatha Merkerson as Reba the Mail Lady, and John Paragon as Jambi the Genie. The theme song was composed by Devo-founder Mark Mothersbaugh, who also composed the theme song for Nicktoons such as Rugrats and Rocket Power.

One of Nickelodeon's most beloved Nicktoons has its origins on Pee-wee's Playhouse! Animator Craig Bartlett got his start creating the Penny cartoons on the show.

While playing around with the strangely-shaped characters in the Penny cartoons on Pee-wee's Playhouse, Bartlett created a football-shaped-headed kid, who later became the star of Hey Arnold!.

Paramount Reportedly Looking to Sell Its South American Businesses, Including Telefe and Chilevisión

Paramount Global is reportedly seeking buyers for its businesses in Argentina and Chile, which includes Argentinian national television channel Telefe, which Paramount (then Viacom) acquired in 2016, and Chilean free-to-air (FTA) channel Chilevisión, which the company (then ViacomCBS) purchased in 2021. The company is aiming is to obtain between US$100 million from the sale of its local businesses.

The North American company has granted a sales mandate to the consulting firm Quantum Finanzas, led by economist Daniel Marx, to search for a buyer for Argentina's leading broadcast television channel.

The list of candidates is extensive, but like recent major mergers and acquisitions, it is comprised of all local players. Among the interested parties are several groups that bid a few months ago to acquire Telefónica Argentina, such as the Los W group, owned by the Werthein family; Corporación América, owned by Eduardo Eurnekian; and Alpha Media, the media holding company led by Marcelo Fígoli. Sources close to the transaction also confirmed that other businesspeople are closely monitoring the purchase, such as Tomás Yankelevich—the son of Gustavo Yankelevich, Telefe's longtime programming manager—and Martín Kweller, owner of the production company Kuarzo Entertainment.

The Paramount group has already informed the candidates that it intends to obtain US$100 million from the sale of its local businesses. "They are asking for US$100 million, but I wouldn't be surprised if it closes at a lower figure, closer to US$80 million. And they are open to accepting offers for the businesses in Argentina and Chile, or selling Telefe separately," explained a company that reviewed the portfolio.

The figure sought by the sellers is far from the US$345 million that Viacom paid for Telefe in 2016, before ultimately merging with CBS, which gave rise to Paramount Global.

The sale of the assets in South America come as Paramount is in the midst of merging with the American production company Skydance Media. This latest transaction was announced a year ago, but has yet to be fully approved by US antitrust authorities and the FCC.

Rumors of Telefe's sale have been circulating for some time. Darío Turovelzky, executive vice president of Broadcast and Latin American Studies for Paramount Global, spoke to LA NACION about the matter in May of last year. While he did not fully confirm the claim that "Telefe is for sale," he did assure that there were many interested parties in the channel and that he had been in charge of putting them in contact with Paramount executives in the U.S., who are responsible for making this decision.

On the other hand, in the last two years, Telefe has also been reducing its staff through voluntary redundancies and early retirements, and has been changing its business model to make it more profitable and attractive to potential buyers. Other Paramount brands in the region, including Nickelodeon, have also seen big changes in recent years. Nickelodeon Latin America and Nickelodeon Brazil mainly share their programming feeds with Nickelodeon's Central & Eastern pan-regional feed, with only Nickelodeon Mexico retaining a fully-localised feed.

The hiring of the consulting firm Quantum Finanzas earlier this year accelerated what was already an open secret and put the channel's assets on the map. At that point, offers officially began to be received, one of which now appears close to being finalized.

It's currently unknown whether Paramount Global will also be looking to sell 5, the company's British FTA channel.
