Nickelodeon Asia and EYEYAH! Partner for World Ocean Day PSA Series

SINGAPORE — Pro-social edutainment platform EYEYAH! together with Nickelodeon Asia and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) are collaborating to draw children’s attention to ocean protection and sustainability through a 10-part animated series of public-service announcements (PSAs) that will begin airing on Monday, June 8, 2020 in conjunction with World Oceans Day.

The United Nations (UN) designated World Oceans Day as the day to celebrate the crucial role that oceans play in our everyday life, and to inspire action to protect the oceans, as well as encourage sustainable use of marine resources.

With art direction and curation by EYEYAH! and featuring the work of 10 illustrators from Singapore, UK, and Australia, the animations use eye-catching graphics to bring to life little-known fun facts that encourage active participation and provoke thought.

Topics covered include ocean acidification, pollution caused by a container losing its cargo of 28,000 rubber ducks, innovation in boat design, underwater volcanoes, lighthouses, and overfishing. In addition, three featured animations reveal unusual facts about sharks, a sea creature that children are endlessly fascinated by.

This collaboration is part of Nickelodeon’s ongoing pro-social Together for Good initiative, which aims to empower kids to make positive changes in the world around them. Previous initiatives include a 10-part series on Internet Safety, healthy eating, and recycling/reusing. EYEYAH! and Nickelodeon had recently collaborated on a series of PSAs for the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, covering topics from global warming and waste to recycling and upcycling.

To enable deeper learning and incite a creative response from viewers, each animation is supported by a free worksheet with activities such as designing a poster to raise awareness on sea pollution, and a crossword puzzle about the types of food that Great White Sharks eat. There is also a free Teachers Toolkit that uses the artworks to trigger conversation in the classroom.

“We are delighted to continue working with Nickelodeon, to highlight the hugely important topic of waste and recycling to children around the world,” said Tanya Wilson, founder of EYEYAH!.

“Children are learning a lot in school about the danger that plastic poses to ocean life, and we wanted to expand their knowledge by drawing their attention to lesser-known facts, using eye-catching graphics and humour to make learning fun.”

Watch each of the 10 animated spots below, and download the free worksheets here.

'Glitch Techs' Co-Creator Teases Extended 2-Minute Extended Version of Theme Song

Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape), one of the co-creators of Glitch Techs has revealed the amazing news that there is a extended two-minute version of the Glitch Techs theme song!

In a reply to a fan-made extended intro of the show on YouTube, Milano said: "We'll see about finally getting this out there when the next episodes drop - you guys have most of it by this time, there's just one big portion missing. :)"

Milano added: "This was so fun to make, btw - we only needed to make a 30 and 15 sec version of the song but as you can tell we don't really do things small and we always deliver more than asked, lol. We went ahead and worked with Brad Breek to do a 2 minute version. After all, we were really inspired by Ghostbusters and MIB which had their own songs. We figured even if the network never used it - we'd have it for us :) Don't worry, we'll get it out to you. Our buddies at Netflix really love it."

It's fantastic to hear that there's an extended edition of Glitch Techs theme tune - hopefully we'll get to hear it soon!

In case you haven't see it yet, here's the original version of Glitch Techs theme song:

Glitch Techs is available to stream on Netflix today!

Who knows what really happens when a video game starts to glitch? In Glitch Techs, two teens work at a game store as a front for their actual job: Hunting video game monsters who've broken out into the real world for a super secret task force, The Monster Hunters! Nickelodeon's brand-new animated adventure-comedy series follows two newly recruited kids as they battle video game monsters that come to life in the real world.

This brand new animated series features High Five and Miko, two gamers who are recruited into the world of Glitch Techs: kids who battle the video game glitches that enter our world through faulty game consoles!

In the world of Glitch Techs, Hinobi is a huge gaming and tech company that makes massively popular video games consoles. What Hinobi customers do NOT know is that their games sometimes glitch and release dangerous video game creatures into the real world! That’s when the company send the Glitch Techs: a trained support team equipped with an arsenal of fantastic gaming gear designed to capture video game pests and out them back where they belong!

Once a glitch is returned, the Techs must remove any evidence it was there – including the memories of any witnesses! Not only do Glitch Techs fight for the safety of the city, they also work at Hinobi stores, helping customers with tech support and service needs.

Enter Miko and high Five – new recruits who fight glitches and reformat witnesses all before the store closes at 5pm. Talk about a crazy job! Respect the Tech!

Glitch Techs stars Ricardo Hurtado as High Five, Monica Ray as Miko, Luke Youngblood as Mitch, Sandeep Parikh as Haneesh, Zehra Fazal as Zahra, Josh Sussman as Bergy, Eric Lopez as Papi, Dan Milano as BITT and Scott Kreamer as Phil, as well as Scott Kreamer, Betsy Sodaro, Ashly Burch, Greg Nix, Dee Baker, Stephanie Sheh, Jolene Kim, Felicia Day, Cree Summer, Roshon Fegan, Rachael Russakoff, Nolan North and many more. Dee Bradley Baker (Legends of the Hidden Temple, American Dad) and Stephanie Sheh voice Miko's parents, Jane Lynch (iCarly, Glee) will guest star on the series. In addition to voicing some characters, Felicia Day was also a consultant for the series.

Glitch Techs comes from Eric Robles (Fanboy & Chum Chum, The X's, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan) and Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape), both hailing from Nickelodeon's Artist Collective, an internal artist-led development program, and is produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif. Nickelodeon has picked-up Glitch Techs for an initial 20-episode first season. A second season was commissioned, however, Nickelodeon halted production half-way through. If Glitch Techs season one is successful, there is a chance that the remaining 10 episodes will get animated.

On his Twitter co-creator Milano described the influences and inspiration behind the animated show, “Being childhood fans of the paranormal investigation genre, Glitch Techs is absolutely Eric Robles’ and my love letter to Ghostbusters and Men in Black with plenty of X-Files, Buffy, Doctor Who, Star Trek, and dozens of other stuff we and our collabs grew up on.”

Although there isn't any official Glitch Techs merchandise available to purchase just yet, fans can purchase Holographic Miko & Ally Sticker on Lacelle's official webstore.

'Glitch Techs' Co-Creator Confirms Miko Has ADHD

Fans have been enjoying Glitch Techs ever since Nickelodeon's long-awaited animated series finally bowed on Netflix in February. One of the great aspects of the show is that it boasts a great cast of characters with different abilities and ethnic backgrounds. And now, Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape), one of the co-creators of Glitch Techs has shared a tidbit of information about a character from the show that makes the series even better!

Answering a fan on Twitter, Milano confirmed that in the series, High Five and Miko, the show's two protagonists, are aged 15 and 16, respectively, however, when writing the show's original bible in 2015, they were originally aged 13 and 14, revealing that Nickelodeon asked them to "age up" the characters in 2018.

Milano then revealed that whilst growing up, Miko had some learning difficulties from her ADHD, causing her to be held back a year in school, and that she has just finished junior high in the series!

Yes, Miko has ADHD! I know it doesn't seem like much, but details like this are important. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is on the rise. In the U.S. alone, one in 10 children between ages 5 to 17 years receives an ADHD diagnosis, making this one of the most common childhood neurodevelopmental disorders in the country. And it's not only children who are affected by it - ADHD can affect adults, too.

And that's not all - boys are more than twice as likely as girls to receive an ADHD diagnosis - which makes Miko having ADHD even more unique!

The makers of Glitch Techs have put in a lot of effort to make this show inclusive - including having a Muslim-American female character who wears a hijab - and it shows. Representation matters - people need to see themselves in TV shows and movies, to have heroes just like them. Including a good range of characters is what makes Glitch Techs even more of an absolute gem of a show. It's a pity that Glitch Techs didn't make it to air on Nickelodeon like it was produced to, but like Dan Milano said, "look at it this way, we're reaching a much wider audience of children around the globe on @netflix".

Update (8/6) - Dan Milano has talked more about Miko having ADHD. He said how it's definitely the intent, though they wanted to make it more official once a consultant was brought onboard. The details of her schooling are kept as "soft canon" since they have ideas that could possibly contradict it, but her core character is still intact.
