K-Pop Promoter REELS Corp. Partners with ViacomCBS; Hints That Nickelodeon Could Air K-Pop News Bulletins

K-pop has had a massive resurgence over the past decade, with bands such as BTS and Blackpink garnering millions of fans globally thanks to their catchy songs.

Make It Pop

Due to the genre's popularity, Korean K-pop promoter REELS Corporation Inc. has announced that the company has partnered with ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks, which could see Nickelodeon starting to air K-pop news bulletins!

Commenting on the agreement, Sunghyun Yoo, CEO of REELS Corporation Inc., said: “We discussed and agreed upon posting K-pop music videos on MTV, VH1 and MTV2 of ViacomCBS through our local partner agencies. We are also considering presenting K-pop news broadcasts on Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and other media channels. It will be decided at the end of 2020.”

The agreement will allow artists in South Korea the chance to earn a valuable opportunity to show their music videos, live stage performances and other promotional content on ViacomCBS' portfolio of brands through REELS Corporation Inc.

REELS Corporation Inc. works as an agency to support Korean artists to expand overseas and has partnerships with various entertainment management companies and media. CEO Sunghyun Yoo said, “It is an exceptional occasion that a Korean agency schedules delivery plans on MTV.”

This wouldn't be Nickelodeon's first foray into K-pop - the network launched Make It Pop, a K-pop influenced musical comedy series, in 2015, which ran for two seasons. Most recently, BTS was named "Favorite Music Group" at Kids' Choice Awards 2020 and picked up the "World Hit" blimp at Kids’ Choice Awards México 2020, which also saw the group's fans, ARMY, being named "Favorite Fandom".

Official Comcast press release:

Xfinity is the first pay TV provider to offer CBS’ digital subscription video on-demand and live streaming service to customers as we continue to focus on making great entertainment choices available.

X1 customers will be able to enjoy CBS All Access’ offering of more than 20,000 episodes and movies from BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures and more, as well as exclusive original series like Star Trek: Discovery, with new episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays; the upcoming limited event series The Stand, premiering December 17th and based on Stephen King's best-selling novel; as well as the recently debuted docuseries Texas 6, and many more.

In addition, CBS All Access also offers exclusive live streaming rights for major sports properties including some of the world’s biggest and most popular soccer leagues, along with the ability for customers to stream ViacomCBS Digital’s other live services: CBSN for 24/7 news, CBS Sports HQ for sports news and analysis, and ET Live for entertainment coverage. For Flex customers, CBS All Access enables them to stream their local CBS station live across the U.S., including the events CBS Sports broadcasts, from golf to football to basketball and more, as part of the extensive sports programming available on the service.

To launch the app and access the streaming service over the Internet, X1 customers can say “CBS All Access” into the Xfinity Voice Remote. They can also simply say the title (for example “Star Trek: Picard” or “The Good Fight”) to find and enjoy CBS All Access Originals instantly or browse CBS All Access programming within collections curated by Xfinity’s team of TV editors such as “Explore CBS All Access” and “December Premieres.” X1 customers and their families can also find CBS All Access children’s programming, which includes more than 1,000 episodes, including new seasons of Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, Danger Mouse, and popular series from Nickelodeon. X1 and Flex customers will continue to enjoy all of the great programming included with CBS All Access and more when the service is rebranded as Paramount+ early next year.

Nickelodeon UK Ratings For Week Of Monday 23rd - Sunday 29th November 2020

Nickelodeon UK Network Ratings for week of Monday 23rd - Sunday 29th November 2020.

Ratings were up considerably across the Nickelodeon UK Network this week, according to BARB data, compared to the previous week (Nov. 16-22).

Danger Force continued to do well on Nickelodeon, with The Crystal Maze USA also making a welcome appearance.

Over on Nicktoons, Rugrats was the third most-watched show for this week, made even more impressive as the series - which ended over a decade ago - isn't aired as much as most other shows currently on Nicktoons are. It's good to see renewed interest in Rugrats, with Nickelodeon preparing to premiere the new CG-animated Rugrats series next year

Nick Jr.'s Top 15 chart, meanwhile, was dominated by PAW Patrol and Peppa Pig, with Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom making two welcome appearances.

Meanwhile, the big winner of the week was Nick Jr. Too! The channel, which hosted a Nick Jr. Peppa pop-up channel during November, saw a ratings increase of 129.4% this week.
