Nickelodeon’s Ramsey Naito Adds Oversight Of Paramount Animation as Mireille Soria Exits Studio

In one of Brian Robbins’ first major moves since becoming President and CEO of Paramount Pictures, he has brought in one of his top lieutenants at Nickelodeon, Ramsey Naito, to lead the film studio’s animation division in addition to her current duties as President of Nickelodeon Animation. Naito’s new title will be President, Animation & Development, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, with the expansion of her portfolio mirroring that of Robbins, who also remains President and CEO of Nickelodeon. Mireille Soria, President of Paramount Animation, is leaving.

“Ramsey is one of the savviest executives and creative minds in our industry,” Robbins said. “During her time at Nick, she has transformed and reinvigorated the Animation Studio division with her sharp business instincts, deep stable of relationships and unique eye for great storytelling, and I’m thrilled to have her bring her talents to this expanded role where she can further elevate our overall animation business.”

Added Robbins, “Mireille has been a driving force in building out a new, dynamic and modern chapter of Paramount Animation. We thank her for her many contributions to the organization and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

With Naito at the helm, Nickelodeon Animation launched its largest animation slate in the network’s 40+ year history with over 70 projects at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio and deals with top talent and creators.

In 2021 alone, Naito, who was upped from Executive Vice President (EVP) of Animation Production and Development for the Nickelodeon Group to President of Nickelodeon Animation a year ago, has overseen the launches of such global television and film franchises as PAW Patrol: The Movie; the expansion of the SpongeBob SquarePants universe with The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run and two original spinoffs, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years and The Patrick Star Show; Baby Shark; Blue’s Clues & You!; Santiago of the Seas; The Loud House Movie; and Rugrats, which was recently greenlit for a second season.

Naito will now lead a combined animation production slate that includes the upcoming Star Trek: Prodigy from Nickelodeon Animation and CBS Studios; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theatrical motion picture, in partnership with Point Grey Pictures’ Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, and helmed by Jeff Rowe; original Avatar: The Last Airbender content stemming from the newly formed Avatar Studios, best-selling book adaptations Real Pigeons Fight Crime, produced by James Corden and Ben Winston, and the critically acclaimed Big Nate; Tiny Chef, in partnership with Imagine Kids+Family; an animated series based on Monster High, in partnership with Mattel; and an original animated Transformers series with Hasbro’s Entertainment One (eOne).

Naito previously worked at DreamWorks Animation, Blue Sky Studios and Cartoon Network, and is a member of Women in Animation, the Producers Guild of America and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Soria assumed her role as head of Paramount Animation in 2017. During her time at the studio, Soria was credited with ushering in a new wave of refined storyteller-based content, and was instrumental in the development and production of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. She also shepherded the upcoming films Rumble, a sports comedy about monster wrestling based on a graphic novel; musical adventure Under the Boardwalk; and The Tiger’s Apprentice, based on the best-selling book series, among others. Soria also orchestrated a first-look deal with joint venture Animal Logic (Happy Feet) and Imagine Entertainment, with Imagine’s Ron Howard set to direct The Shrinking of Treehorn, currently in development under the deal. Prior to Paramount Animation, Soria served as co-president of feature animation at DreamWorks Animation, making hits like Boss Baby and Trolls.

Soria’s exit comes during a continuing reorganization of Paramount Pictures by new chairman and CEO Brian Robbins, who replaced Jim Gianopulos in early September. Emma Watts, the seasoned production executive only a year in her post as president of the Paramount motion picture group, was dismissed last Friday.

'Blue’s Clues & You!' Season 3 to Introduce Rainbow Puppy, Voiced By Brianna Bryan

Nickelodeon has announced the PAWsome news that Blue’s Clues & You! season three will introduce viewers to a brand new character named Rainbow Puppy!

Voiced by Brianna Bryan (Craig of the Creek, This Is Us), Rainbow Puppy is a charismatic, confident puppy from the city with a vibrant personality to match her colorful fur. She'll make her first appearance in the brand new Blue’s Clues & You! episode “Our New Neighbor” premiering on Friday, October 1, at 11 a.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon.

Rainbow Puppy will appear throughout season three and will also be featured prominently in Nickelodeon's brand-new movie that was recently greenlit as part of the beloved show's 25th Anniversary celebration.

BSCKids recently talked to Bryan to celebrate her new role. You can check out a few excerpts from the interview below, and read the interview in full at bsckids.com!

How did you get the role of Rainbow Puppy and give us a description of the character in your words?

I went through a super fun audition process including a special callback, where I was really encouraged to be in the role. I love to sing, so when I was asked to sing during some of the lines, I really felt like I was able to embrace the role and be authentic to not only my character’s vibrant personality, but I’d like to think my own too! My character is bright, playful, creative, kind, curious, and colorful and is always excited for new adventures 🙂

How do you get ready to record your lines for the character?

I would prep ahead of time by reading my lines a few times before my sessions to be prepared, but just enough so I can act them out in a very spontaneous and realistic way. I would practice my music even more so that I could sing the notes fluently and also have ideas in my head for possible harmonies- something I LOVE to add to my singing!

How much did you know about Blue’s Clues before getting the part? Did you watch all of the previous seasons of the show?

Oh my gosh!! I am a huge fan too!! I’ve grown up with Blue’s Clues and always remembered it as being one of the most prominent shows of my childhood. My parents even got me and my sister our own authentic “Thinking Chairs” when we were little!!! I also used my special notebook all the time even while watching the show! I feel like I know Blue and Magenta so well, and felt so ready to bring Rainbow Puppy to life with her big voice and brilliant personality!

Why do you think Blue’s Clues has stood the test of time?

Blue’s Clues has always been such a relatable show for children and families. And on top of that, the lessons that are taught in the show are done so in such a creative and fun way. It’s really a show that takes life situations and simplifies them for children to understand more fully, yet also spins the learning experience into a unique kind of puzzle and challenge. It’s such an original concept.

What does a “normal” day look like for you when you are working on the show?

A normal day would consist of waking up early, drinking some tea, doing my vocal lessons while sipping water, and prepping my recording setup. I use my iPad to read my script and have a handy dandy notebook on the side to take my acting notes during each session. My computer is also set up to run all of my programs for recording live. It was super interesting doing some of my sessions during the pandemic because I got to learn how to be my own “Sound Engineer.” I love the process so much!

If you had to guest star/guest voice on another currently running Nickelodeon show, which one would it be and why?

I would love to be on PAW Patrol! I really support how the show is community-oriented and motivates kids to stand up for each other and protect those they love so heroically. It’s another show that is full of amazing messages to learn from.
