Paramount, Gamefam Partner For 'SpongeBob,' 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Fan Experiences In Roblox
Leading metaverse game provider Gamefam has announced an official partnership with Paramount Consumer Products and Nickelodeon. Together they will bring two iconic cartoon franchises -- SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT)––to Roblox.
Doug Rosen, senior vice president of games and emerging media at Paramount, said in a recent statement that expanding both franchises to new platforms is a critical part of the company's gaming strategy.
Ricardo Briceno, chief business officer at Gamefam, adds that iconic fan-favorites like these franchises “are the exact types of brands Roblox audiences engage with on a massive scale.”
Launched as a comic book series in 1984, TMNT became a hit animated TV show, a live-action television series, and later spawned numerous blockbuster theatrical releases. The franchise has also generated billions of dollars in retail via toys, apparel, video games, DVDs and more.
Nickelodeon has also played a part in reviving the franchise through multiple animated TV series, video releases and separate Netflix deal that ended in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie. Another theatrical motion picture, "Mutant Mayhem," which is currently in production at Nickelodeon with Point Grey Pictures, will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.
On the other hand, SpongeBob has been the most-watched animated series for almost two consecutive decades and now spans theatrical releases, consumer products, a Tony award-winning Broadway musical and a global fan base.
The SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles immersive Roblox experiences will be separate entities and are still being developed, and are slated to launch later in 2023.
There have not been any more specific details released about which activities either world will feature.
Gamefam has recently worked with other major media distributors to launch branded experiences in the Roblox metaverse, including a music-themed social role-play world called Rhythm City for Warner Music Group, and Hot Wheels World for toy manufacturer Mattel, and many more.
Nickelodeon previously partnered with Dubit to launch the Nickverse immersive experience on Roblox.

Nickelodeon Wins Raft of Awards in the 2023 Kidscreen Awards
Nickelodeon has received a raft of nominations in the 2023 Kidscreen Awards, which honors the best children's media over the last year!
Update (2/15/23) - Nickelodeon won a raft of awards in the 2023 Kidscreen Awards!:
- The Tiny Chef Show (pictured) won the "Best Mixed-Media Series" and "Best Directing" awards in the "Preschool Programming" and "Creative Talent" categories, respectively;
- Miranda Cosgrove and Rob Gronkowski picked up the "Best On-Air Host or Hosting Team" award in the "Broadcasting" category for hosting the 2022 Kids’ Choice Awards;
- In the Digital-Preschool category, PAW Patrol Rescue World won the "Best Game App—Branded" award, whilst the Blue’s Clues & You YouTube channel won "Best YouTube Channel";
- Finally, Nickelodeon's Nickverse Roblox virtual world won "Best Game App—Branded" in the "Digital-Kids" category!

In the Preschool Programming category, The Tiny Chef Show (Imagine Kids+Family, Tiny Chef Show Productions, Factory, Nickelodeon Animation, Dunshire Productions) has been nominated for the "Best Mixed-Media Series" award.
