Zachary Lurje Boards 'Rock Island Mysteries' Season 2 as Fremantle and Screen Queensland’s Inaugural Environmental Steward Intern

Brisbane-based filmmaker Zachary Lurje has joined season two of Network 10 and Nickelodeon's youth series Rock Island Mysteries as Fremantle and Screen Queensland’s inaugural environmental steward intern.
The paid attachment involves Lurje working alongside the production’s sustainability coordinator to track and review carbon footprint calculations and substantive evidence in line with the Albert reporting process.
He will also research appropriate recycling options across all departments, from art to catering, and spend time with the production’s COVID Officer to assess how COVID protocols impact sustainability on set.
Fremantle is also working with Albert – an environmental organisation that encourages the film and TV production industry to reduce waste and its carbon footprint — to achieve certification under its system.
Lurje’s findings will contribute to the creation of a sustainable production template, a delivery of Screen Queensland’s Environmental Sustainability Roadmap, which was announced last year in collaboration with environmental consultants Edge Environment.

It comes after the agency was announced as one of 16 foundational members of the industry-led initiative Sustainable Screens Australia (SSA).
Screen Queensland chief creative officer Belinda Burns said the environmental steward intern was part of a strategic effort to minimise the ecological footprint of screen production in the state.
“Fremantle Australia is an industry leader and part of a huge multi-national network, so they are expertly positioned to provide mentorship in this space and work with us to form new, environmentally conscious industry standard practices,” she said.
“The Environmental Steward Internship was launched as a valuable training opportunity in a growing job area in the physical production sector, allowing an emerging Queensland film practitioner hands-on experience while making a positive impact on our industry and planet.”
Fremantle Australia’s Jonah Klein, who is a development executive and producer on Rock Island Mysteries, said that the company was proud to offer Lurje his first broadcast series credit through the internship.
“Fremantle is proud to partner with Screen Queensland on this first-of-its-kind attachment to support training in the area of sustainability within the screen industry,” he said.
“Resources from Albert will inform and support Rock Island Mysteries and all of our projects moving forward, to develop best practice in this area.”
Rock Island Mysteries follows irrepressible Aussie teenager Taylor Young (Gold Coast-based singer/actor Alexa Curtis) and her friends, who are driven by a renewed motivation to find Taylor’s missing Uncle Charlie after they reconnected in a mysterious portal to another world. Season 1 premiered on 10 Shake in May 2022 and has since screened on Nickelodeon in Australia, New Zealand, U.K., U.S. and around the world.

Reliance Animation is the production partner for Sammy & Raj, one of Nickelodeon International & Nickelodeon India's first ever children's series with cross-border cultural mix. The 20-episode comedy follows the misadventures of a pair of cousins who have access to a time-altering program and can pause, rewind, fast-forward, and slow-motion their way through a variety of situations. The animated series was released first in the United Kingdom, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East and will be eventually released in India. Reliance Animation is the first production house to get Bollywood IPs into to animation, by partnering with Rohit Shetty, director of the blockbuster Super Cop franchise Singham & comedy franchise Golmaal.

Little Singham, inspired by the blockbuster film Singham, launched on 24th April 2018, and within a short span of time, started ruling the hearts of kids across India and bagged the Best Bollywood Inspired IP at the ANN Awards 2022 (AnimatioN Network Awards). With over 580 episodes and 20 telefilms in both 2D & 3D, the show aired on Discovery Kids, which jumped to the no. 2 spot in BARC ratings (Broadcast Audience Research Council) within the first week of ‘Little Singham's release. The show recently moved to Pogo and is also streaming on Netflix in Hindi, English and Tamil.
Golmaal Jr., the second IP by Reliance Animation in collaboration with Rohit Shetty, was launched on 13th May 2019 and airs on Nickelodeon in Hindi & English with over 320 episodes. In a couple of weeks after its launch Golmaal Jr. was rated no. 1 show in BARC ahead of Motu Patlu which had been ruling the top spot for last couple of years.
Smashing Simmba, based on the second character of the Rohit Shetty Super Cop franchise, released on 14th Nov 2020 and has clocked over 180 episodes. The animated show first aired on Pogo in Nov 2020 and recently started streaming on Discovery Kids from January 2023. In the week of its release on Pogo, Smashing Simmba was rated the no. 1 show on the channel and the no. 3 show across Pogo's kids' category in urban India. This show was also awarded as the Best Remotely Produced Content at ANN Awards 2022.

Business Combination
