Ariana Grande Reflects on Moving to LA for 'VICTORiOUS' Role

Ariana Grande loves Los Angeles.

In celebration of what Kelly Clarkson calls "we love L.A. week" on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the "Because of You" artist sat down with fellow The Voice coach on Monday, Sept. 21 to ask the mega pop-star about her first trip to Los Angeles as a young aspiring star.

Starting off the conversation, Clarkson asked Grande about the first time she came to L.A. as a teenager.

“The first time I came to L.A. was for my Victorious callback,” she said, referring to her breakout Nickelodeon series, “and I was so nervous, but so excited.”

"I was really young. I was 14, but I had never been here until my callback. My mom was like, 'Do you think you can really do this? We'll get a place. Should we get an apartment, you think?' They kept us waiting for a long time," Grande continued.

Grande also recalled waiting “a long time” between callbacks and staying at a hotel in the meantime, eventually prompting her mom to sign a lease on an SoCal apartment. "That was a good investment," said Clarkson, who is anything but wrong.

"There's a long time between the next callback and the next one, and we were staying at a hotel. ... I was like, 'I hope so, I have no idea.' And then, thank God, because what if I didn't get it? And she then was like 'We have this lease for the next six months!'"

“Thank god,” she added of landing the show, “because what if I didn’t get it and then she was like, ‘Well he have this lease for the next six months’?”
