Director Jeff Fowler has wrapped filming on Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Fowler, who directed all three Sonic films, shared the news via X/Twitter, writing: “On behalf of this amazing cast/crew, we have filmed the BEST Sonic Movie yet and can’t wait to share.”
He also shared a photo of himself in the director’s chair posing with a figure of Metal Sonic, the evil robot teased in the third installment.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 marks the latest adventure for the anthropomorphic speedster. Plot details for the fourth film are under wraps. But the cast will be led by Ben Schwartz. Jim Carrey, Kristen Bell, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Lee Majdoub, Nick Offerman and Richard Ayoade, who is swapping crystals for emeralds.
Paramount’s live-action/CGI hybrid film series has proved incredibly lucrative at the global box office, grossing more than $1 billion.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which debuted in December 2024, is officially the property’s highest-grossing entry with $218 million domestically and $422 million globally to date. Sonic 4 builds on the commercial success of its predecessors: the original 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog became a surprise winner, earning $148 million domestically and $319 million globally and setting a then-record for the highest-grossing video game adaptation in North America. And the 2022 sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was bigger than the first, powering to $190 million domestically and $405 million globally. In January 2025, the Sonic franchise collectively surpassed $1 billion in box office receipts worldwide.
Knuckles, a limited "side quest" event series set between the second and third movies that follows Knuckles (Elba) on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade (Adam Pally) as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior, smashed global viewership records when it debuted on Paramount+ in April 2024.

The fourth installment in the franchise will be released on Friday, March 19, 2027.
