Nickelodeon Israel Premieres 'Next Door Rivals'

Nickelodeon Israel (יִשְׂרָאֵל) has announced plans to premiere Or Vs. Paz Next Door Rivals (אור נגד פז), a brand new children's series about the rivalry between two schools, on Sunday 22nd March 2026, airing Sunday-Wednesday at 14:00! The series will also air on Nick Jr Israel.

'Or Vs. Paz' Key Art

In the village of Orpaz, there are two schools, Or and Paz. There has been a rivalry between them for years, and no one remembers why. What is clear is that there has never been a single time that Or School has managed to beat Paz School, but now everything is about to change.

The Ornics gang are the underdogs of the settlement, and they wisely and bravely deal with the strong and arrogant paganics who always try to sabotage and destroy them.

Produced by Ananey Studios, a division of Paramount, the series is based on the successful children's book series by children's author Dana Elazar-Halevi (דנה אלעזר-הלוי). The series was created for television by Yaron Arazi and Dafna Maman.

Or Vs. Paz stars young actors Omri Yogev, Noam Schlinger, Rom (רום), Aviya Reuven, Talya Rondel (טליה רונדל), Ido Cohen (עידו כהן), and Yair Mazor (יאיר מזור), along as Maya Wertheimer, who plays the head of the of the Orpaz settlement at the center of the series, who will always do the wrong and inappropriate thing to promote herself. Ido Cohen previously starred in Nickelodeon Israel's comedy series, The Agent (הסוכן).

OR VS. PAZ

A comedic, action-packed children’s series based on the bestselling book series Or vs. Paz by Dana Elazar-Halevi.

In a long-standing school rivalry, the cunning Paz students always win by playing dirty, while the underdog Or kids are left defeated. But when a new girl joins Or, they finally decide to fight back—using creativity and fair play to change the rules of the game.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., June 10, 2024 -- The Jim Henson Company (Fraggle Rock, Apple TV+; The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Netflix) and Paramount's Ananey Studios (Greenhouse Academy, Netflix; Spell Keepers, HBO Europe; Spyders, Nickelodeon International; Craft Party, CBBC) are introducing "climate hope" with The Season Keepers, a new 2D animated series for kids ages 6-12 and their families.

This modern-day fairy tale is inspired by Vivaldi's Four Seasons and welcomes viewers to connect to nature through a fantastical story filled with magical creatures. Twins Lia and Ben find their world and family unraveling when their parents' divorce sends them to their grandmother's small village for what's sure to be a snooze-fest of a spring holiday. Little do they know, they've landed in the middle of an epic battle between the seasons, where Lia discovers her gift to mediate between humans and The Nature Makers—a realm of magical creatures who are the guardians of nature itself. Lia must harness newfound powers and solidify her sibling bond with Ben to mend family rifts, save their grandmother from an eternal slumber, and stop a group of vengeful Nature Makers from plunging the world into a perpetual winter.

Frequent Henson collaborator Craig Bartlett (Dinosaur Train, Sid the Science Kid, Hey Arnold!) is attached as writer for the development of the series.

"From the minute Hila, Gili, and Shirley shared with us Bosmat Agayoff's gorgeous designs for her creation The Season Keepers, we knew this was the next fantasy world we wanted to explore at The Jim Henson Company," said Halle Stanford, President of Television at The Jim Henson Company. "At its heart, The Season Keepers is about the healing of a family and of the natural world around them. And this series about climate hope is wrapped up in a luxurious whimsical world filled with magical and never-before-seen creatures. To work with this extraordinary creative team from Israel is an honor; and then handing the story reigns over to Craig Bartlett ensures this adventure will captivate kids for generations."

"We couldn't be more excited about joining forces with the legendary Jim Henson Company, responsible for some of the most loved and known kids shows. In this modern-day animated fairytale, a breathtaking journey will intertwine magic, adventure, and heart to inspire young viewers everywhere," said Orly Atlas-Katz, CEO Ananey Paramount & Executive Vice President (EVP) Paramount Israel

The Season Keepers is created and designed by Bosmat Agayoff (Where is Anne Frank?, Barbie Dreamtopia). Gili Dolev will direct the series. Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford will serve as executive producers for The Jim Henson Company and Orly Atlas-Katz will serve as executive producer for Ananey Studios. Gili Dolev, Hila Pachter, and Shirley Oran will also serve as executive producers.

Ananey Commences Production on 'Rescue Team' Season 10 For Nick Jr. Israel

Nick Jr. Israel (יִשְׂרָאֵל) has announced that Rescue Team (צוות הצלה) season 10 has started filming!

Update (10/9) - Nick Jr. Israel (יִשְׂרָאֵל) will premiere Rescue Team (צוות הצלה) season 10 on Thursday 28th September 2023!

Produced by Ananey Communications, Rescue Team features a combined elite force of preschoolers on a mission to save the day! Our team of Police Officers, Firefighters and Medics is here to enforce the law and restore order on the playground.

In every episode, the Rescue Team's commander answers the call of worried citizens and the team goes out to explore what new problems have risen – they help people who fall and injure themselves, extinguish fires, solve crimes and catch criminals. Well, technically there's always one criminal who's behind every single incident in the show - Mani Menace.

On the way, our heroes learn to help other people and animals, and most of all, work as a team. By fixing Mani's wrongdoings, they demonstrate proper behaviour of fellowship, friendship, and kindness. They also help young kids explore which boundaries can be flexed in an entertaining and positive way.

The winner of the 2020 Israel Academy Award for Best Preschool Series, Rescue Team is a fun, adventurous and empowering show for preschoolers, that became an immediate hit upon release in Israel.

Paramount's Ananey Studios and Nevision Co-Develop 'Goode Stuff'

Leading Israeli production house Ananey Studios (The Greenhouse/Greenhouse Academy, Craft Party, Spell Keepers), a Paramount company, and independent production company Nevision (The Floogals), are jointly developing Goode Stuff, a brand new animated comedy series aimed at kids aged 6-12.

Created, written and directed by Israeli animation phenomenon, Nir and Gali, who have created TV shorts, YouTube hits and TV ads which have garnered millions of views, the 52×11 minute series tells the tales of the everyday, chaotic life of a 10-year-old kid with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and a house full of talking objects that never shut up!

Daytime Emmy Award and BAFTA nominated creator, director and showrunner Gili Dolev (co-creator Nickelodeon’s Zack & Quack, Series Director of Nick Jr’s Nella the Princess Knight, Showrunner of Universal Kids’ Powerbirds, and Series Director of Cocomelon for Netflix), is Creative Producer. Nevision’s Creative Director of Kids & Family Nigel Pickard and Orly Atlas-Katz, Ananey’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Shirley Oran, Ananey’s Senior Vice President (SVP) Content and Osnat Saraga, Ananey’s SVP Development & Productions are also Executive Producing.

The Goode family, like all other families, are doing their best to juggle everyday life. Only in their house, there’s always someone else – or rather something else – to reckon with. Talking appliances, furniture and toys with strong opinions and desires.

Kylo, who has ADD, finds it hard enough to concentrate without every item in the house voicing their thoughts and opinions. Luckily, he has enough sense of humor and resourcefulness to navigate any wacky and unexpected situation. Like that time his tablet ran away from home following an argument over screen time. Or that day his own bed insisted that he slept on the floor when he refused to take a shower after soccer practice.

Ananey and Nevision are pitching Goode Stuff at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival this week.

Pisces Lane centres on three 16-year-old best friends growing up together in a mixed neighbourhood in Jaffa where Jews, Arabs and refugees from Africa live side by side. Though they each come from a different culture, their friendship is stronger than any language or religion.

Produced by Ananey Studios in collaboration with The Co-Production Company, Pisces Lane follows sixteen-year-old best friends Dalina, Ella and Yasmin, who grew up together in a mixed neighborhood in Jaffa. They start a multi-lingual band called Talatha, whose original music will be included in the show. UMG Israel will produce and release all music.

The series marks the first time Universal Music Group (UMG) has partnered to deliver musical production for a scripted series in Israel. UMG Israel will produce and release all the music for the series.

The new live-action teen series will air on Nickelodeon Israel for Hot Cable Network. The Co-Production Company will secure financing and global distribution for territories outside Israel.

The series is created by Michal Cooper Keren and Lior Yaron, with Cooper Keren serving as showrunner. The writing duo have previously collaborated on Spyders for Nickelodeon International; Spell Keepers, which was sold to HBO Europe and other European broadcasters; North Star, which was adapted into US show The Lodge and aired on Disney channels in 100 countries; and Summer Days, which aired in dubbed versions on dozens of Disney channels in western Europe and South America.

Orly Atlas-Katz, CEO of Ananey and EVP of ViacomCBS Israel, said, “Pisces Lane is a truly unique teen series in so many ways, and the music in it is no different. Nickelodeon Israel Orders Teen Series 'Thalath' from The Co-Production Company and Ananey Studios

The Co-Production Company and Israel-based Ananey Studios have teamed up to co-produce the live-action teen series Thalath.

The 40 x 30-minute Arabic and Hebrew-language series has been commissioned to air on Nickelodeon Israel, exclusively for the Hot cable network. The U.S.-based The Co-Production Company, founded by former DreamWorks Senior Vice President (SVP) Doug Schwalbe, will seek to secure financing and global distribution for all territories outside of Israel as well.

Schwalbe will serve as the executive producer of Thalath, which focuses on three sixteen-year-old best friends named Ella, Aisha and Malika, who grew up together in a mixed neighborhood in Jaffa, where Jews, Arabs and refugees from Africa live side by side. Though they each come from a different culture, their friendship is stronger than any language or religion. The three girls start a multilingual band called Thalath (which means ‘three’ in Arabic), whose original music will be a feature of the series. The series, which is being made for a global audience, is slated to premiere on Nickelodeon in Israel during Fall 2022.

Orly Atlas-Katz, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ananey Studios and Executive Vice President (EVP) of ViacomCBS Israel; Osnat Saraga, senior VP of development and productions; and Jerry Diaz, a former Corus and WildBrain sales executive, will join Schwalbe as executive producers. Diaz has also joined The Co-Production Company team as partner of distribution for this project and will lead the effort to secure program sales outside of Israel.

Creators Michal Cooper Keren and Lior Yaron have previously collaborated on successful teen shows in Israel such as Spyders for Nickelodeon International, Spell Keepers (original title: Kadabra, which won the Israeli Academy Award for Best Teen Show of 2017), which was sold to HBO Europe and other European broadcasters, North Star (adapted into the American show The Lodge) and Summer Days (aired in dubbed versions on dozens of Disney channels in Western Europe and South America). Cooper Keren will also serve as the showrunner.

Thalath is truly breakthrough television in so many ways,” said Schwalbe. “The concept could not be more timely—or courageous—given the ongoing conflict in Israel and the global refugee crisis. On top of that, the series is leading the worldwide trend toward programming content in its original language and is one of the first shows for teens to do so. We are also thrilled to be collaborating with the team from Ananey and series creators Lior Yaron and Michal Cooper Keren. Their proven track records put them at the forefront of the wave of new Israeli creators making an exciting impact on the world television marketplace.”

Atlas-Katz said, “We are excited to collaborate on Thalath, our newest commission from Israel’s leading cable network Hot, with the team from The Co-Production Company. Once in a while we get to work on a project that is not just entertaining but also captivating, moving and has the potential to inspire viewers to strive for better and stronger relationships. Thalath is exactly that, and we can’t wait to reveal it to viewers everywhere.”

ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI) acquired Ananey Communications, which includes the production arm and pay-TV channel) to grow its position in MENA in April 2020.

Schwalbe launched The Co-Production Company earlier this year as a boutique firm that specialises in the finance and distribution of high-end international productions.

The company has backing from France’s Superprod Group and deals with writer/producer Michael Poryes and Impact X Capital. Other partners include Pukeko Pictures (New Zealand), August Media (Singapore), Chatrone (Brazil), Anima Estudios (Mexico) and DreamWorks Animation Television.

VIS Distribution Adds Ananey Studios Content to Portfolio

Following its parent company’s April 2020 acquisition of leading Israeli media company Ananey Communications Group (Ananey Studios), ViacomCBS International Studios (VIS) Distribution has augmented its sales catalogue with over 750 episodes of content including teen live-action series, entertainment formats and kids’ and pre-school shows.

Ananey Communications owns and operates six local pay TV channels for which it produces a broad range of youth, children’s, lifestyle and entertainment content. Ananey also manages and operates under license local versions of VCNI’s flagship pay-TV brands, including Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., TeenNick, MTV, and Comedy Central, as well as representing an additional seven VCNI channels for affiliate sales in Israel. In addition to producing content for its own and VCNI’s channels in Israel, Ananey also produces for third parties both in Israel and internationally. The acquisition followed ViacomCBS’s previous purchase of a minority stake in the company in December 2016.

Amongst the titles being newly distributed by VIS Distribution as finished tapes or available as format for adaptation are recently launched kids’ sitcom Unsupervised, about four spoiled siblings left home along; and teen adventure series Rising; set at a training and recruitment center for kids in 1946, two years before the State of Israel was founded; and The Hood, a teen drama set in a low-income neighborhood in a wealthy Israeli district. Also part of the portfolio are Greenhouse Academy, a US-English remake of Nickelodeon Israel's hit series The GreenhouseCraft Party (Hebrew and English versions) and Rescue Team.

“We are thrilled to be expanding our VIS catalogue with Ananey’s complementary range of content,” commented Lauren Marriott, senior vice president, VIS Distribution. “Israel is renowned as a hub for high-end productions and Ananey is equally recognised as a well-established and prolific producer of local and global scripted and entertainment content, which we’re confident new audiences around the world will find irresistible.”

“We can’t wait for viewers outside of Israel to fall in love with more of our content,” added Orly Atlas-Katz, CEO, Ananey Communications. “The inclusion of our titles in the ViacomCBS International Studios Distribution catalogue is a great show of confidence in kids’ series coming out of Israel and we couldn’t be more excited to get them to new audiences around the world.”

Splash Entertainment and ViacomCBS’s Ananey Studios Team Up on New Preschool Series, 'Family Rocks'

Splash Entertainment, the U.S.-based, multi-award-winning children’s entertainment studio, and ViacomCBS’ Ananey Studios, one of the leading, award-winning production companies and content creators in Israel, are joining forces for the first time to produce and distribute Family Rocks, a new preschool series about the first modern family of the Stone Age. The 52×7-min digital cut-out animated series will be ready to “rock” the international broadcast community at MIPCOM 2020, October 12-15.

Family Rocks (52×7’) follows the Stone Age adventures of the first modern family in history, the Quartzes, and includes Mom Rocksan, Dad Tuff, and 6-year-old twins Pebble and Gemma. After centuries of unruly Neanderthals with a crude parenting style called “pointing and grunting,” the Quartzes communicate verbally, explore together, tell stories, create art, and even talk about their feelings and emotions. As the new modern family, the Quartzes have to figure out everything on their own, and they soon realize that sometimes people have to get things wrong before getting them right – which is all part of the fun. Among the adventures and life-changing discoveries the Quartzes stumble upon are the wheel, fire, music, art, and the game, “I spy with my little eye.”

“We fell in love with Family Rocks as soon as we saw it,” said Peter Young, Director of Development, Splash Entertainment. “We are excited to be collaborating with Ananey and series creator Gili Dolev to bring this authentic and relatable Stone Age family to life for preschoolers and their families all across the globe.”

“We are very happy to be working with Splash Entertainment, our wonderful likeminded, fun and creative partners,” said Dolev, who in addition to creating the series is Head of Animation Development at ViacomCBS’s Ananey Studios. “With this Ananey/Splash dream team assembled behind the show, we’re looking forward to ‘rocking’ the world with Family Rocks!”

Dolev came up with the idea for Family Rocks during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic’s first quarantine in Israel earlier this year. To help the family stay positive and creative, the Dolevs ventured out each day to collect rocks that they would then take home to paint, giving each its own unique look and “personality.” Ultimately, the family collected and created more than 50 stones, which became the inspiration for the new series. “While rocks have always given humans physical foundations, first caves and later houses, family has been the emotional bedrock we’re all built upon,” said Dolev.

Dolev is an Emmy, BAFTA and Annie-nominated creator and director whose credits include Zack & Quack (Nickelodeon), based on his multiple award-winning short, The Happy Duckling; Nella the Princess Knight (Nick Jr. and 9 Story); and Powerbirds (Universal Kids). Pilot script for Family Rocks is being written by the multi award-winning Jacqueline Moody (Gigantosaurus, Kiva Can Do, Wordworld).

Ananey’s award-winning productions are available on both linear and SVOD platforms in Israel and around the world. Among the company’s notable offerings for preschoolers are the live-action shows Rescue Team (צוות הצלה) and Walla Koala (וואלה קואלה). In addition to preschool programming, Ananey’s portfolio includes original productions for Kids, Tweens and Teens such as Netflix’s Green House Academy, (adapted from Nickelodeon Israel's The Greenhouse (החממה/Ha-Hamama)) CBBC’s Craft Party (adapted from Nick Jr. Israel's מסיבת יצירה) and Nick Israel's Spellkeepers (כדברא) on Nickelodeon Poland and HBO Europe, among others, along with Entertainment & Comedy and Lifestyle & Factual offerings.

Splash is a multi-award-winning studio with a wide array of kid- and family-friendly programming. Most recently, the company announced it will develop, produce and distribute new animated on-screen content based on the picture book, “The Little Shop of Monsters,” written by R. L. Stine and illustrated by Marc Brown (“Arthur”), as well as Stine’s comedy book series, “Rotten School.”

Nick Jr. Israel Premieres New Mixed-Media Series 'Sweets Café'

Israel’s Ananey Studios (formerly Nutz Productions) has partnered with New York-based production company Driver Studios on Sweets Café, which debuted Sunday, August 2 on Nick Jr. Israel broadcaster HOT. It will roll out internationally this fall on Driver’s Cool School YouTube channel.

The 10 x 12-minute mixed-media preschool comedy series, locally titled אגדות מרשמלו, presents modern versions of classic fairy tales as told by an animated monkey/chef to an array of café patrons, including real-life actors as well as cartoon and imaginary characters. This marks the prodco’s first foray into mixed media, and Shirley Oran, VP of content for ViacomCBS channels in Israel, says it was important to cast live actors to create a local feel for Israeli audiences. (The American version of the series will lean more heavily on an animated cast.)

ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI) fully acquired Israeli producer and pay-TV channel provider Ananey Communications in April. Sweets Café is one of the few preschool-skewing shows from Ananey Studios, which is best known for producing live-action tween dramas including Greenhouse Academy (The Greenhouse), Rising and The Hood.

For Driver, Sweets Café furthers its expansion, which commenced when the company amalgamated its kids and commercial companies. Driver’s new co-pro also comes on the heels of its first TV option deal for kids series Dreamweaver.

The greenlight of The Spyders comes on the heels of Viacom purchasing a minority stake in Ananey Communications Group in 2017.

ViacomCBS Networks International Acquires Israel’s Ananey Communications Group

ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI) has fully acquired the Israeli content producer and pay-TV channel provider Ananey Communications Group. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

VCNI is acquiring the shares in Ananey it does not already own, following its acquisition of a minority stake in the company in December 2016.

Ananey’s founder and chairman, Udi Miron, will stay on in a new role as special adviser to Ananey and will also act as general partner of a newly formed venture capital fund, Gazella—New Media Experience, that he and VCNI will jointly invest in. The fund will focus its investment in Israeli media and technology-related businesses.

Ananey will now be consolidated into ViacomCBS’s international business, with its CEO, Orly Atlas-Katz, reporting to Maria Kyriacou, president of VCNI’s operations across Australia, Israel and the U.K.

David Lynn, president and CEO, VCNI, commented: “This deal is a logical next step to cement and enhance the long-standing and valuable partnership we have with Ananey and to secure and scale our position in the Israeli market. Ananey is a well-established and successful producer of local and global content and it is a strong fit with the rest of our international networks and studios business. I’m excited by the potential to scale its ideas and formats, to exploit its content pipeline and library and to tap into its production expertise for our TV networks and streaming services in other territories.”

Atlas-Katz added: “This is an exciting day for me personally, but even more so professionally, as one who represents a large group of individuals dedicated to the production of high-quality content and first-rate productions. I am proud that ViacomCBS has acknowledged this talent, and thrilled at the prospect of deepening this partnership and becoming an official part of a wonderful family, home to some of the most successful shows and formats in the world. This a vote of confidence on behalf of ViacomCBS, not only in us as a company, but also in Israeli content and creators. I’m positive that this a giant step forward for the local market and a boost to its ability to distribute content outside Israeli borders.”

Miron said: “We’ve been working for a long time to expand Ananey’s horizons beyond the Israeli market and have made good progress in building an international business – becoming part of ViacomCBS will now accelerate our efforts to establish Ananey as a globally significant player in the international content market. This acquisition is recognition of Ananey’s entrepreneurship and creative capacities, together with its ability to assist VCNI in the development of international productions and technology-based content.

“The ‘Gazella – New Media Experience’ fund will bring fresh investment to the Israeli market, specifically to companies using technology to create new forms of content. As for myself, the role as general partner in this new fund marks the next step in my long and fascinating journey through the Israeli field of broadcast and production.”

Ananey is a long-standing commercial partner for VCNI in Israel, where it owns and operates six local pay-TV channels for which it produces a broad range of youth, children’s, lifestyle and entertainment content. Ananey also manages and operates under licence local versions of VCNI’s flagship pay-TV brands, including Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV, and Comedy Central as well as representing an additional seven VCNI channels for affiliate sales in Israel. As well as producing content for its own and VCNI’s channels in Israel, Ananey also produces for third parties both in Israel and internationally. Its hit teen drama, Greenhouse Academy, has been renewed for a fourth global season on Netflix. The series is based on the Hebrew-language series The Greenhouse that ran for four seasons exclusively on Nick Israel, and in 2013 Nickelodeon UK picked up an English-dubbed version of it.

Nickelodeon's hit The Greenhouse, of which the cast recently returned to make a coronavirus-themed miniseries. Nickelodeon International and Nutz Productions — the subsidiary production arm of Ananey - recently partnered for a new drama series Spyders, which will premiere on Nickelodeon channels and programming blocks globally throughout the year.

The company has also been growing its slate rapidly, lining up the tween drama Rising (50 x 22 minutes), which debuted on TeenNick earlier this month. It’s other tween-skewing series The Hood (150 x 22 minutes) and Spell Keepers (150 x 22 minutes), also air on Teen Nick.

The studio also produces live-action shows for kids and preschoolers, and one of its more popular series is the unscripted children’s show Craft Party that airs on Nick Jr. Israel, which CBBC commissioned a UK version of to be made by London-based Keshet Productions.

Ananey’s new series Sky (40 x 22 minutes) comes from Greenhouse Academy creator Giora Chamizer, and is a tween drama debuting on Teen Nick about an alien who crash-lands on earth and has to avoid detection, while pretending to be the most popular (and meanest) girl in school.

The transaction was carried out on Ananey’s behalf by KPMG Israel.

"Ananey is a well-established and successful producer of local and global content and it is a strong fit with the rest of our international networks and studios business," David Lynn, president and CEO of VCNI, told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement on the rationale for the deal.

Lynn oversees Viacom's media networks and related businesses outside the U.S., and reports to ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish, a former CEO of VIMN.

From The Jerusalem Post:

ViacomCBS acquires Israeli TV company Ananey

ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI), a division of ViacomCBS Inc., announced Monday that it had acquired Ananey Communications Group, a leading Israeli content producer and pay television channel provider. VCNI is acquiring the shares in Ananey it does not already own, following its acquisition of a minority stake in the company in December 2016.

Ananey’s founder and chairman, Udi Miron, will stay on in a new role as special advisor to Ananey. Ananey’s CEO, Orly Atlas-Katz will be reporting to Maria Kyriacou, president of VCNI’s operations across Australia, Israel and the UK, now that Ananey will be consolidated into VCNI.

Ananey Communications Group, one of Israel’s largest media companies, was founded by Miron in 1996 and quickly became the leading multichannel television group in Israel, with 11 original channels and exclusive operation of ViacomCBS brands in Israel, including MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, TeenNick and Nick Jr. Ananey's channels reach four in every five Israeli households.

Among the many series created by Ananey and its subsidiary, Nutz Productions, are the Netflix series, Greenhouse Academy, which has been renewed for a fourth season, and the Hebrew-language series on which it was based, Ha Hamama. Other recent series from Ananey include Rising, about teenagers in the Palmach fighting force just before the War of Independence, and Spyders, a show about teens who join their parents in a spy organization that protects the environment.

Atlas-Katz said: "This a vote of confidence on behalf of ViacomCBS, not only in us as a company, but also in Israeli content and creators. I'm positive that this a giant step forward for the local market and a boost to its ability to distribute content outside Israeli borders."
Miron added: “We’ve been working for a long time to expand Ananey’s horizons beyond the Israeli market and have made good progress in building an international business – becoming part of ViacomCBS will now accelerate our efforts to establish Ananey as a globally significant player in the international content market.”

Miron will also become a general partner of a newly formed venture capital fund, Gazella – New Media Experience, that he and VCNI will jointly invest in. The fund will focus its investment in Israeli media and technology businesses.

David Lynn, president and CEO of VCNI, commented: “This deal is a logical next step to cement and enhance the long-standing and valuable partnership we have with Ananey and to secure and scale our position in the Israeli market.”

People may think that a making a television show is glamorous, but the set of Spyders – the first original co-production between Viacom’s Nickelodeon International and Israeli Nutz Productions, the subsidiary production arm of Ananey Communications Group, together with Israeli cable network HOT – is anything but.

It’s a hot dusty day in early October and filming is taking place in and around an empty barn in a moshav, but that doesn’t bother Nina Hahn, Nickelodeon senior vice president in charge of international production and development, who has flown in from England to meet with the show’s creators.

“Nickelodeon is everywhere kids are, and we have been so excited about partnering with this amazing team in Israel to create ‘glocal' content – content that is both local and global, and to find something that will work in Israel and will resonate with audiences outside of Israel,” she said.

Spyders focuses on Anna and Noah Fisher, highly skilled undercover agents who work for ECCO, Environmental Counter Crime Organization, and are tasked with fighting criminals who endanger nature or the environment. Little do they know that their three kids – Daniel, Nikki and Tommy – have discovered their secret occupation and have formed a task force of their own, named Spyders.

Nickelodeon has ordered 40 episodes, each 22 minutes long, which will be distributed to Nickelodeon's international audiences in more than 170 countries and territories via the brand’s more than 100 channels and branded blocks in 2020.

Spyders was created and written by Michal Cooper Keren, the creator of Nickelodeon Israel's Spell Keepers. It was based on an idea by Tom Riles, David Guest and Patrick Quinn. It stars Nati Kluger, Kobi Maymon, Kim Or Azulay, Jonathan Gotlieb and Amit Hechter.

“The series is grounded in reality and authenticity,” said Hahn. “We describe families as tribes. This is about sharing family pride. The kids are heroes who save the family. Children can do things that grown-ups can’t. This is about kids who want to be agents like their parents, and then end up being even better than they are.”

One key element of Nickelodeon programs, said Hahn, is that, “We don’t talk down to kids. Our DNA is equal parts: Art Fart Smart. We can be funny and broad, but we also know how to do drama and suspense.”

Spyders, she said, would be a “dramedy,” intended to appeal to children from 9-12. “Our sweet spot is about 10,” said Hahn. But like all Nickelodeon series, “It’s something that a family can watch together.”

The series will air with five episodes a week, the kind of “appointment television” – TV that is watched when it airs rather than streamed – that ends on cliffhangers and keeps audiences in suspense until the next episode. Although once it has aired, Hahn said, “It can be consumed in any number of ways.”

In terms of partnering with an Israeli team and production companies, Hahn said, “Everything that felt good for them, was good for us. The series will work for Israel, for the United States, for countries all over the world.

“Spyders really fits in with trends from around the world, of this decade’s kids trying to save the earth,” Hahn said. “And it’s very appropriate that the series reflects two very different teams from different parts of the globe coming together to birth one baby.”
