Darlene Caamano, Rebecca Sugar, Julia Pott, Sofía Alexander Lead Focus On Women In Animation At Pixelatl 2020

Pixelatl Festival, the Mexico-based meet-up for Latin American and global animation, is going virtual this year, but the shift hasn’t dented the caliber of the guestlist.

The speakers are a typically diverse bunch, with a twist: this edition (September 1–5) focuses on women in the animation industry. Otherwise, there’s little to unite them — they come from both Latin America and elsewhere, creative and executive backgrounds, industry and indie. The headline guests include:

• Mike Hollingsworth — supervising director, Bojack Horseman

The focus on female talent extends to the rest of the program, which includes:

• The presentation of MUMA (Women in the World of Animation, Mexico) as a chapter of WIA (Women in Animation) with Marge Dean, WIA president
• Cartoon Network Latin America’s presentation of original IPs being developed in Mexico along with Cinema Fantasma, Axur Eneas (Mexico), Ricardo Scioville (Colombia), and Matisse Gonzalez (Bolivia)
• Exclusive footage and the announcement of a new Cartoon Network IP being developed in Mexico
• Presentation of pilot by Matisse Gonzalez, winner of Pixelatl’s #GirlPower pitching event (organized with Cartoon Network)
• Laika’s 15th anniversary celebration with five department heads in individual panels with students and stop-motion-focused portfolio reviews
• New award: Best Game of The Year for a Latin American Video Game

Christian Bermejo, the festival’s artistic director, tells Cartoon Brew that the focus on women was conscious from the start: “Even though the industry is overflowing with female talent, it is not always highlighted.” He adds that the line-up was broadly conceived before the pandemic shift, although the shift to virtual “has made it easier for people that are knee-deep into production to commit a couple of hours of their time to be part of Pixelatl.”

In a normal year, the event draws top talent from the animation, video game, vfx, and comics sectors to Cuernavaca, serving as a crucial bridge between artists from the region and overseas studios and production companies. Aside from the event proper, it also helps run the education conference La Cumbre, the Ideatoon bootcamp and pitching program, and Girl Power: Pitch Me the Future, another pitching event targeted at female creators.

This role as a nexus between Latin America and the rest of the world shapes the organizers’ choice of guests. “Pixelatl is all about connecting,” Bermejo tells Cartoon Brew. “We want to learn from different industries, territories, and profiles, and we want our guests to come and learn about Mexico and Latin America … So it is a subtle combination of attractive names to get the attention of the people, but it’s all about what they have to say and how they can connect with our Latin community.”

Nickelodeon Benelux has announced the aweslime news that, following the slime-tastic success of Nickelodeon Netherlands' (Nederland) first-ever Nickelodeon Familie Festival in 2018, Nickelodeon Familie Festival will return this summer, bigger and better than before!

Update (29/8) - Nickelodeon Familie Festival 2019 was an AWESLIME success! Nickelodeon Benelux will be airing the Nickelodeon Familie Festival Report 2019 on Friday 30th August 2019 at 18:15, 19:55 and 21:30 on Nickelodeon Netherlands (Nederland)!

Taking place once again at the beach in Almere on Sunday 25th August 2019 between 10:00 - 19:00 uur, Nickelodeon Familie Festival is a family-centric festival specially designed for kids aged 6-12 years and their parents. The entire day will feature live performances from many well-known Dutch artists, meet and greets with popular YouTube stars & vloggers as well as Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. heroes, including SpongeBob SquarePants and the pups from PAW Patrol, plus lots of activities inspired by hit Nickelodeon shows. For the smallest festival goers, there will be a special Nick Jr. Playzone.

On the festival grounds, attendees will be able to choose from a wide and varied selection of healthy eating options.

Nickelodeon Netherlands Announces Headline Acts For 'Nickelodeon Familie Festival' 2018 [Updated]

Nickelodeon Benelux has announced the headline acts that will be taking the stage at the channel's first-ever Nickelodeon Familie Festival in the Netherlands (Nederland) this summer!

Taking place on Sunday 26th August 2018 at the beach in Almeerderstrand, Almere between 10:00 uur to 18:30 uur, Nickelodeon Familie Festival is a brand-new family-centric festival specially designed for kids aged 6-12 years and their parents. The entire day will feature live performances from many well-known Dutch artists and lots of activities inspired by hit Nickelodeon shows. The one-of-a-kind event is being organised by Nickelodeon in collaboration with Tribe Company, known for De Vrienden van Amstel LIVE! and Strandfestival ZAND.

Headlining Nickelodeon Familie Festival will be Ronnie Flex & Deuxperience, Djamila, Kraantje Pappie, Vinchenzo, Famke Louise, Gierige Gasten and STUK (DJ-sets), who will each provide dazzling live performances on one of the three stages at Nickelodeon Familie Festival. Joining them will be Kaj van der Voort, Yosina and Hello August.

Update (21/8): Nickelodeon Benelux has announced that Dutch YouTube star Kelvin Boerma (aka Kalvijn), who makes up one half of the Cinemates channel, as the surprise act of Nickelodeon Familie Festival 2018! He will join 10-year-old YouTube star Noah on stage to perform his hit song "Nu al miljonair". The social media star will also hold a meet & greet and signing session at Nickelodeon Familie Festival!

Update (12/7): Nickelodeon Benelux has announced that Nielson will be the closing act of Nickelodeon Familie Festival 2018! The singer-songwriter (whose full name is Niels Littooij) was part of Zirkus Zirkus, a popular band formed by Nickelodeon in partnership with MTV between 2009 and 2011, which makes him the ideal artist to conclude Nickelodeon's first annual Nickelodeon Familie Festival, Nick said on Thursday 12th July 2018. Nielson is set to release his third album, "Diamant", featuring his newly released single "Doen, Durven Of De Waarheid", on Friday 21st September 2018.

Nickelodeon has also announced that, in addition to the aforementioned headline acts, fans can look forward to special appearances from Girlys Blog, Vonneke Bonneke and Stefania at Nickelodeon Familie Festival 2018, which will be hosted by Kaj van der Voort and Nienke van Dijk.

Nielson is de afsluiter van het Nickelodeon Familie Festival. De singer-songwriter maakte van 2009 tot en met 2011 deel uit van de door Nickelodeon opgerichte band Zirkus Zirkus, en is daarmee de ideale kandidaat om de eerste editie af te sluiten, zo laat de organisatie donderdag weten.

Nickelodeon Netherlands Announces 'Nickelodeon Familie Festival', a Brand-New Festival for Kids and Families

Nickelodeon Benelux has announced plans to host its first-ever Nickelodeon Familie Festival in the Netherlands (Nederland) this summer!

Taking place on Sunday 26th August 2018 at the beach in Almeerderstrand, Almere between 10:00 uur to 18:30 uur, Nickelodeon Familie Festival is a brand-new family-centric festival specially designed for kids aged 6-12 years and their parents. The entire day will feature live performances from many well-known Dutch artists and lots of activities inspired by hit Nickelodeon shows.

Viacom Kids & Family will be working with Tribe Company, known for De Vrienden van Amstel LIVE! and Strandfestival ZAND to bring the Nickelodeon Familie Festival experience to fans this summer.

NICKELODEON ORGANISEERT DEZE ZOMER HET GROOTSTE FAMILIEFESTIVAL VAN NEDERLAND

Viacom's zender Nickelodeon organiseert op zondag 26 augustus 2018 voor de eerste keer het ‘Nickelodeon Familie Festival’. Het evenement vindt plaats op het Almeerderstrand in Almere en is speciaal voor kinderen van 6 tot 12 jaar en hun ouders. De gehele dag staat in het teken van optredens van bekende Nederlandse artiesten en activiteiten geïnspireerd op de vele programma’s van Nickelodeon. Voor de organisatie van het festival werkt het Viacom Kids & Family-merk samen met evenementenbureau Tribe Company, bekend van onder meer De Vrienden van Amstel LIVE! en Strandfestival ZAND.

‘De tijd is rijp voor een Nickelodeon Familie Festival’, legt Nickelodeon Vice President Victor Coolman uit. ‘De combinatie van livemuziek en de totale Nickelodeon-beleving zorgt voor een stranddag vol familieplezier. Samen met Tribe Company, dat de festivallocatie goed kent en jarenlange ervaring heeft met het organiseren en produceren van festivals, hopen we een sterke eerste festivaleditie neer te zetten.’ Tribe Company directeur Machiel Hofman vult aan: ‘Een festival speciaal voor de hele familie op het strand van Almere biedt natuurlijk enorm veel leuke mogelijkheden voor actieve Nickelodeon gerelateerde activiteiten. Daarnaast richten we de programmering op artiesten die het goed doen bij de hele familie.’

Het Nickelodeon Familie Festival duurt van 10:00 tot 18:30. Op www.nickelodeon.nl/festival staat binnenkort alle programma-informatie over artiesten en activiteiten die gaan plaatsvinden op het festival.
