THQ Nordic And Nickelodeon To Bring Back Selected Video Game Titles From The Past

Several Nickelodeon series from the past two-plus decades are heading to modern consoles, with help from THQ Nordic. The companies have partnered to bring back a number of games from the Nickelodeon catalog starting later this year, THQ Nordic announced today.

THQ Nordic hasn’t revealed which specific games it plans on remastering or re-releasing, instead naming the franchises that it plans to revive, including Rugrats, Danny Phantom, SpongeBob SquarePants, Fairly OddParents, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Back at the Barnyard and Catscratch.

Here’s the full list of Nickelodeon series whose games the company plans to re-release:

- Avatar: The Last Airbender
- Back at the Barnyard
- Catscratch
- Danny Phantom
- El Tigre
- Invader Zim
- Jimmy Neutron
- My Life as a Teenage Robot
- Rocket Power
- Rocko’s Modern Life
- Rugrats
- SpongeBob SquarePants
- Tak and the Power of JuJu
- The Fairly OddParents (US only)
- The Ren & Stimpy Show
- The Wild Thornberrys

THQ Nordic and Nickelodeon’s partnership is meant to speak to one of the games publisher’s stated goals: ensuring that older properties are able to find a new life with modern audiences. THQ Nordic has previously revived and remastered games like Darksiders, and has announced plans to do the same with the PlayStation 2-era game Destroy All Humans!

Nickelodeon are also reviving beloved properties. The network recently revived Hey Arnold! for "The Jungle Movie", and has TV movies based on two more of the networks iconic properties in its pipeline: Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader ZIM. Nickelodeon are also working on a Clarissa Explains It All reboot.

THQ Nordic also has a history with Nickelodeon: The original THQ Inc. held the Nickelodeon license, releasing games under the "Nick Games" label, prior to its liquidation in 2013. Nordic Games later bought THQ in 2014, a year after the company declared bankruptcy.

It’s unclear when we’ll see Tak and the Power of JuJu (a Nickelodeon property that started life as a video game), SpongeBob’s various games and the rest of the series back on shelves, but THQ Nordic plans to reveal more, including which titles will be representing the shows named shows (when applicable), pricing or platforms “in the coming months.”

Which titles are you hoping Nickelodeon and THQ Nordic will re-release? Let NickALive! know in the comments!

Below is THQ Nordic's official announcement:

THQ Nordic and Nickelodeon bring back selected game titles from the past

SpongeBob SquarePants, Tak and many other gaming hits will celebrate their comeback in 2018 and beyond

NEW YORK / VIENNA - March 21 2018 - THQ Nordic and Nickelodeon today announced the global revival of several game titles connected with Nickelodeon properties.

The full list of game titles are:

- Avatar: The Last Airbender
- Back At The Barnyard
- Catscratch
- Danny Phantom
- El Tigre
- Invader Zim
- Jimmy Neutron
- My Life As A Teenage Robot
- Rocket Power
- Rocko's Modern Life
- Rugrats
- SpongeBob SquarePants
- Tak And The Power Of JUJU
- The Fairly OddParents (US only)
- The Ren & Stimpy Show
- The Wild Thornberrys

On-shelf availability will be announced in the coming months.

“The appetite for Nickelodeon content old and new continues to grow and it’s exciting to bring our beloved content to new audiences through this partnership with THQ Nordic,” said Jon Roman, Senior Vice President, Toys, Nickelodeon. “These titles were popular when they were first released and we can’t wait for fans around the world to rediscover their favorites.”

“This one hits close to home! We are very proud of signing this agreement, which was originally executed by the “former” THQ Inc,” comments Adrienne Lauer, VP Digital Sales & Business Development Americas at THQ Nordic. “We believe the combination of strong licenses and solid, crisp gameplay was one of THQ Inc’s trademark strategies, and we intend to continue this tradition. I am confident we chose one of the strongest partners for doing just that. It is a perfect fit for our “asset care” strategy: bringing back fan-favorites, continuing to support legacy games and make them available on current and even next-gen platforms.”
