Keke Palmer Hints at 'True Jackson VP' Reboot

Fans of True Jackson VP might have a big surprise in store!

Keke Palmer, who starred in Nickelodeon's popular comedy series posted a TikTok on Tuesday showing herself dancing along to the show's catchy theme song "Change It Up" -- which she also sang and co-wrote, and has recently become a trending sound on the platform -- while claiming that the series had gotten the greenlight for a revival.

"Congrats! Another reboot!" Palmer captioned the video. "Y’all made this happen"

Palmer wrote over the video itself, "When they cancelled True Jackson VP prematurely just to reboot it in 2021."

True Jackson VP -- which tells the story of a 15-year-old girl who is randomly hired by a fashion mogul to serve as the Vice President of his company's youth clothing line, and the subsequent wacky hijinks that ensue -- premiered on Nickelodeon in November 2018, running for three seasons and 60 episodes before coming to an end in August 2011.

Created by Andy Gordon, the series also starred Ashley Argota as Lulu, Matt Shively as Ryan, Danielle Bisutti as Amanda, Robbie Amell as Jimmy, Greg Proops as Max Madigan, Ron Butler as receptionist Oscar, and Dan Kopelman as Kopelman

It's unclear whether or not Palmer was kidding about the announcement, but fans were quick to jump at the possibility, with many excitedly tweeting their support for the reboot.

Here's the catch: Keke's TikTok is the only post making the rounds right now that talks about a reboot. Cast alums including Ashley Argota and Matt Shively, who played True's BFFs Lulu and Ryan, or Robbie Amell, a.k.a. True's crush Jimmy Madigan, haven't reacted to Keke's TikTok or posted their own reboot reactions on social media. Further, there isn't any official confirmation yet from Nickelodeon. Hey, maybe the True Jackson team will take the Zoom approach and conduct a reunion or reboot over the video conferencing app, which recently happened with the cast of fellow mid-00's Nickelodeon series Victorious.

For the time being, we only have Keke's excited TikTok and the super pumped Twitter reactions from fans to help keep up hope that this news is for real.

Update: To further fan the late-2000s fire, Palmer’s former True Jackson, VP co-stars Robbie Amell, Ashley Argota, and Matt Shively responded to the clip to express their enthusiasm!:

Amell retweeted Palmer’s post and wrote, “I’m ready.” Shively then tweeted, “Ummmm.... what’s good? You tryin to play with my heart or what?!” and tagged Argota, who replied, “I’m…. cackling. I truly thought I had just missed the email chains for this or something.” (That last tweet definitely makes it seem like Palmer was just kidding, but, hey, stranger things have happened.)

Since there’s no official confirmation (yet), there’s no telling if or how a revival would present itself. Like, would there be all new faces, much like the Gossip Girl reboot? Or, would Palmer and her former co-stars reprise their roles as adults?

While it’s all up in the air, Palmer and co. have kept busy since the series’ finale. Palmer has starred in Scream Queens, Hustlers, Scream, and is currently co-hosting an hour of Good Morning America (GMA), titled Strahan, Sara and Keke, and Quibi’s Singled Out reboot. Meanwhile, Amell just celebrated the launch of his new Amazon Prime show, Upload, while Shively recently starred in The Real O’Neals, and Argota starred in Bucket & Skinner’s Epic Adventures and started a podcast, "Mismo".

Palmer’s TikTok teaser comes after other beloved shows have received the reboot treatment: Nickelodeon’s All That, Blue's Clues, Double Dare and Are You Afraid of the Dark? were both resurrected for a new generation of viewers, with a Rugrats revival also in the pipeline. ABC’s Boy Meets World and Disney’s That’s So Raven produced spinoff revivals with Girl Meets World and Raven’s Home. NBC is reviving Saved by the Bell for its Peacock service, Disney+’s recently-halted Lizzie McGuire revival is also still in the works, and Netflix revived Full House with Fuller House. In sum, it’s an optimal time for reboots. Why not True Jackson, VP?

Update (4/27) - From ET:

Robbie Amell Dishes on 'True Jackson VP' Reboot Rumors (Exclusive)

Robbie Amell is all in for a True Jackson, VP reunion!

ET's Leanne Aguilera video chatted with the 32-year-old actor this week, where he reacted to the rumors that the Nickelodeon series was coming back. Keke Palmer, who starred as True Jackson, posted a TikTok on Tuesday showing herself dancing along to the show's catchy theme song, while claiming that the series had gotten the greenlight for a revival.

"I was learning about it as people online were learning about it," Amell revealed. "And then me and Keke and Ashley [Argota] and Matt [Shively] were all kind of texting back and forth, like, 'This would be really fun. This would be awesome.' So I don't know if there’s any real truth to it right now…But I would definitely jump back in. I love that show and, you know, it was one of my first real jobs in L.A."

Amell played Jimmy Madigan, True's love interest on the show. He also revealed that he's thought about where his character would be now, and if Jimmy and True would still be together.

"I started thinking about it a little bit," he said. "Jimmy was always a little bit of a mess. I feel like things aren’t probably going to be stellar for him but, with that being said, maybe it’s the opposite. You know, maybe things are just really great for Jimmy now. I feel like he’s the type of guy who would, like, accidentally win the lottery or something."

"And I feel like you either go one of two ways, either [Jimmy and True are] still together or they find each other again in the show, which I think either one would kind of be interesting and cool," he added. "But I think there has to be that romance there still because it wasn’t over on the show."

While there doesn't seem to be a revival coming anytime soon, Amell does star in the upcoming Amazon comedy, Upload. The show follows the actor as Nathan, a man who is able to choose his own afterlife after his untimely death. Upload, Amell expressed, will be a nice little escape for people amid quarantining.

"I think it will give people a laugh. I think people will smile along the whole time. I think the show is very charming," he shared. "But I also think that it asks some interesting questions without being preachy or shoving it down your throat. I think [creator] Greg [Daniels] does such a great job of riding that line. I mean, if you need no other reason to watch, Greg Daniels created Parks and Recreation and The Office. He’s got the track record. We had a lot of fun shooting the show and I think people will really enjoy it."

Upload premieres on Amazon Prime on May 1.
