Following the expansion of its EMEA licensing collaboration with Hasbro, which spans several evergreen Hasbro brands including Peppa Pig, Ricky Zoom, My Little Pony and Play-Doh, Bildo has granted Hunter Price the exclusive distribution rights of a range of role-play items high in values and quality, which will hit the UK market from this summer.

The partnership kicks of with Bildo’s Peppa Pig product offering. The range brings to life the brand’s strong play values for this ever-popular pre-school licence, which has already received strong support from retailers ahead of autumn/winter 2021. Key items within the range include play kitchens, tea trolleys, tea sets and learning blocks.

Richard Belford, sales director at Hunter Price, explained: “Peppa Pig is a true evergreen licence which continues to evolve and engage young children across all channels. To add such a heavyweight brand to our portfolio shows our commitment to providing the best offering for our retail partners. Our first collections will hit the market later this year, and we’re working closely with Bildo on future Hasbro ranges for 2022 that we know will really strike a chord with our retail partners, especially in a climate where value remains ever important.”

George Fotopoulos, commercial director at Bildo, said: “We’ve worked closely with Hunter Price for many years, so we knew it would be a great fit for us to expand our Hasbro licensing offering in the UK. Speed to market and its industry relationships are second to none, and in this past year we’ve partnered during some very challenging times and achieved great results. In close collaboration with Hasbro, we look forward to rolling out our Peppa Pig strategy in the UK and Hunter Price is an integral part of this plan. At the same time, we are preparing the launch of future licensing ranges from Play-Doh and Ricky Zoom to My Little Pony, due to market in 2022 onwards.”

RNLI Launches Singalong TV PSA to Promote Seaside Safety

Five by Five worked with Wonky Films to create the animated film.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has launched an animated singalong TV campaign to educate children on water safety while visiting the beach.

RNLI's internal agency worked with agency Five by Five on the "Seaside safety song" spot, in which Sandy the lifeguard and her friends offer advice on how to stay safe on the coast, communicated through the medium of song.

The campaign, which launched on 16 July, will run until 5 September across a range of TV channels, including Nickelodeon, MTV, Sky and ITV.

Every year, about 140 people lose their lives on the UK and Irish coasts. This year, in particular, owing to international travel restrictions and a general reluctance to holiday abroad, RNLI expects an increase in coastal visits between May and September.

The film, created and directed by Ravi Beeharry and Andy Mancuso, recommends choosing a lifeguarded beach, swimming between the flags, and floating like a starfish if in trouble in the water. Wonky Films delivered the colourful animations that play out during the action and which add a lighthearted element to the public service announcement.

Sarah Shaw, client director at Five by Five, said: "Our role was to help problem-solve, manage and deliver a beautiful ad at a pace, helping to turn RNLI's vision into a reality.

"Their creative team had drafted the storyboards and scripts, so it was a real case of us working as an extension of their team, acting as the creative mouthpiece for their brilliant ideas. Working closely with Wonky Films, we devised a solution that delivered something fun, engaging, and relevant and, most importantly, on time."

The "Seaside safety song" was produced by Lottie McCormack and is part of RNLI's water safety communication strategy. It supports the charity's aim "To save everyone", via national campaign messaging and sharing advice at a local level.

Baby Shark Candy a Hit for CandyRific

For food retailers looking to drive maximum sales and profits in candy during the fall and winter holidays, two words should be at the forefront of buying decisions: Baby Shark.

If all else fails, remember to order more Baby Shark candy.

Well, maybe eight words: Baby Shark, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo.

Those are the addictive, dopamine-stimulating lyrics to the viral hit song “Baby Shark,” which took the internet by storm in 2016, yet is still capturing the attention of American families, especially in the candy category.

During an interview at the Sweets and Snacks Expo in Indianapolis in June, Clark Taylor, SVP sales and marketing of Louisville, Ky.-based CandyRific, told Progressive Grocer that his company can’t make enough Baby Shark novelties and candy products.

“Some of our customers are selling 10,000 of these a week in their stores,” noted Clark, who said that his Baby Shark spinning-fan candy toys come in a variety of flavors, styles and better-for-you options for the younger consumer who’s reading labels. “Some of the dispensers have organic Jelly Belly jelly beans, because we know this younger parent, consumer, is looking for Baby Shark candy, but better-for-you Baby Shark candy.”

Baby Shark remains the most watched YouTube video ever, with more than 9 billion views. The animated television series, Baby Shark's Big Show! has also been a hit, and now there’s an original animated film coming from Nickelodeon and set for release possibly in 2023.

The Baby Shark trend is just one reason that Halloween, Christmas and the spring holidays may bring food retailers sweeter candy sales than ever. After more than a year of lockdowns and restrictions, the American consumer is ready to celebrate, and candy is poised to be a major part of what are predicted to be supersized gatherings. In addition, the U.S. economy has reopened, shoppers still have stimulus money and savings from the pandemic to spend, and store traffic has rebounded, restoring some unplanned purchasing opportunities.

As for spring holiday opportunities, suppliers at the Sweets and Snacks Expo exhibited unicorns and Marvel superheroes-adorned heart-shaped boxes of chocolate for Valentine’s Day and Easter baskets. But CandyRific’s Clark predicted that Baby Shark will likely still rule into 2022, if he can get enough computer chips to manufacture enough product.

“We are 150 days out on orders, due to shipping delays and shortages — those are our biggest challenges,” he said.

Rob Renzetti Reveals He Once Pitched Plans for 'My Life As A Teenage Robot' Toys

Creator Rob Renzetti has revealed that he once planned to release toys based on his popular noughties Nickelodeon animated series, My Life As A Teenage Robot! However, one of the reasons the toys never came to fruition was due to the toy aisles being super segregated by gender.

When a fan asked Renzetti on Twitter whether he had planned My Life As A Teenage Robot toys, the creator replied: "My pitch for #mlaatr toys was 'Transformers for Girls' Had no idea how misguided that was till I started working with [My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic creator Lauren Faust] on #mlp The toy biz was (still is?) super segregated by gender. There are toys for boys and toys for girls and never the two shall meet."

My Life As A Teenage Robot was created by Renzetti and premiered on August 1st, 2003. Set in the fictional town of Tremorton, the series follows the adventures of a robot girl named XJ-9, or Jenny Wakeman, as she prefers to be called, who attempts to juggle her duties of protecting Earth while trying to live a normal human life as a teenager. MLAATR ran for 62 episodes over three seasons, airing its finale in May 2009, winning two Emmy awards and garnering an additional nomination for Outstanding Animated Program. The series was produced by Frederator Studios in association with Nickelodeon Animation Studios. Among the voice actors in the show was Moira "Mo" Quirk, the referee in Nickelodeon GUTS and Global Guts.

Although we never got to see My Life As A Teenage Robot toys whist on air, merchandise based on the show is finally being released, more than 10 years after the show's finale aired! Zen Monkey Studios released a few MLAATR pin badges for fans earlier this year.

Renzetti pitched the series to Frederator Studios' animated shorts showcase Oh Yeah! Cartoons and a pilot titled "My Neighbor is a Teenage Robot", which aired on January 5, 1999.

My Life As A Teenage Robot is available to stream on Paramount+! Try it FREE at ParamountPlus.com.
