The Critically Acclaimed Series from Adjani Salmon Will Premiere Later This Year on BBC

'Dreaming Whilst Black' Season Two

August 26, 2025 – BBC and SHOWTIME® have revealed the first look images from season two of the critically acclaimed comedy series DREAMING WHILST BLACK from A24 and Big Deal Films.

The new season finds Kwabena at the start of his professional career in a new era: the age of diversity, equity and inclusion, where empowering marginalized voices are seemingly at the top of everyone's agenda. Whilst the entertainment industry might look progressive from the outside, it doesn't feel that way to Kwabs. Desperate to work on a project that aligns with his values, he manages to secure a directing job for major TV series Sin and Subterfuge – a genre-busting period drama, helmed by the iconic black producer Bridgette Julienne. But has Kwabs landed the golden ticket, or did he grab a poisoned chalice?

'Dreaming Whilst Black' Season Two

Season one of the series received BAFTA® TV nominations for Scripted Comedy and Male Performance in a Comedy Programme, an NAACP® nomination for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (Television) and Film Independent Spirit Awards nominations for Best New Scripted Series and Best Breakthrough Performance in a New Scripted Series.

'Dreaming Whilst Black' Season Two

The show is adapted from the original web series co-written by Salmon and Ali Hughes and created by Salmon, Max Evans and Laura de Sousa Seixas.  It garnered a string of award wins and nominations for the creator, star and co-writer Adjani Salmon, including the 2022 BAFTA for Emerging Talent: Fiction and Screen International Star of Tomorrow.

'Dreaming Whilst Black' Season Two

Returning cast members include Dani Moseley as Amy, Demmy Ladipo as Maurice, Rachel Adedeji as Funmi and babirye Bukilwa as Vanessa.

'Dreaming Whilst Black' Season Two

Co-produced by A24 and UK-based indie Big Deal Films, DREAMING WHILST BLACK is executive produced by Adjani Salmon,  Ali Hughes and Big Deal Films’ Dhanny Joshi and Thomas Stogdon. The series is directed by Sebastian Thiel and Abdou Cisse, and produced by Nicola Gregory.

‘South Park’ Set to Continue Skipping Weeks for Stretched-Out Season 27

South Park fans and teeth-gnashing MAGA supporters are going to have to wait a little longer this season for new episodes of the biting satire from Matt Stone and Trey Parker.

'South Park'
Satan and Donald Trump on 'South Park' | Paramount+

After airing the third episode of its 27th season on Wednesday, August 20, a new South Park once again will be absent this week from Comedy Central and Paramount+, and that looks to be the new normal for the rest of the show’s 10-episode run this year.

So far, South Park‘s Donald Trump-pounding season is set to be back with another new episode on Wednesday, September 3, with the next new episode after that to follow on Wednesday, September 17.

Announced by Paramount late last week, that schedule continues the week-on/week-off pattern the show has had since its delayed Season 27 premiered on Wednesday, July 23 with “Sermon on the 'Mount,” an episode written and directed by Parker that focused on Jesus, Trump and Satan.

Right now, though plans could shift, the current South Park production plan is to stick with such a schedule and have Season 27 run to around Wednesday, December 10, Deadline has heard. As this season has already seen the return of a few fan-favorite characters, and with the season 27 finale expected around the holidays, we may even see the return of Mr. Hankey.

“What they’re doing means this year’s episodes need more time than usual to put together, to finish,” a source close to the South Park producers have told Deadline, noting how up-to-the-minute the show has been on Trump’s attacks on democratic norms with ICE kidnappings, troops in the streets of L.A. and D.C. and a very dysfunctional affair with the Prince of Darkness (not Ozzy (R.I.P.)). “So much happens right now in just one day with Trump. No one’s going to sacrifice getting it right, even if we have to push getting it to air, and if that makes the season longer, so be it.”

All of which just fine with the folks at Paramount, A Skydance Corporation, Deadline hears.

“We’re not going to argue with what’s working, ” an insider at the David Ellison-run company said with a laugh about the unconventional broadcasting of this year’s new South Parks. “The numbers are great, the show is getting a lot of attention — if they want to give us a 20-week season for 10-episodes, that’s OK.”

The second episode of Season 27 drew 6.2M global multi-platform viewers across Comedy Central and Paramount+ in its first three days. Mainly drawing from streaming (1.6 million viewers watch on Comedy Central according to L3 results), those numbers from Paramount for the ‘Got a Nut’ episode that saw VP JD Vance’s South Park debut were up from the 6 million who watched the Season 27 opener on multiple platform “Paramount says that global streaming consumption of the long-running series from Trey Parker and Matt Stone has grown double digits in the first three days of Episode 2702’s release, up 49% from the same period of streaming for the series post-premiere,” Deadline's Katie Campione noted.

With all that music to everyone’s ears, reps for the WME-signed Parker and Stone did not respond to Deadline’s request for comment on the schedule for the rest of South Park’s 27th season. Neither did reps for Paramount brass.

Under the purview of Paramount Global ex-co-CEO George Cheeks, who is now CEO Ellison’s Chair of TV Media, the equal-offender animated series is produced by South Park Digital Studios, a joint venture co-owned by Paramount and series creators Parker and Stone’s Park County.

Back after a two-year break of sorts filled with studio-on-studio legal battles, some potential friendly fire-ish legal battles, a beyond 11th hour five-year deal for Stone and Parker and a $1.5 billion exclusive five-year license agreement with Paramount+, South Park now will roll out 50 new episodes during the next half-decade. As a key ingredient of Ellison and streaming chief Cindy Holland’s bid to supersize Paramount+ over the next few years, all of South Park‘s previous 26 seasons are now only on Paramount+ a.k.a. the home of the Taylor Sheridan Universe.

David Bittler Steps Down as Paramount's EVP Communications for Kids & Family

David Bittler, a 25-year Paramount/Viacom veteran, is leaving the company where he most recently served as Executive Vice President (EVP) Communications for Paramount Kids & Family. He announced his departure in a company memo, a copy of which was obtained by Deadline.

He is the second top-level corporate communications executive to leave following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount Global, joining Liza Burnett Fefferman, who recently stepped down as EVP and Head of Communications for Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks. They worked for the two Paramount Global co-CEOs who departed when the transaction was completed, Brian Robbins and Chris McCarthy, respectively, with the co-CEO areas getting divvied up post-merger.

In this most recent role, Bittler oversaw strategic communications and media relations for Nickelodeon, Awesomeness and the kids & family content for Paramount+.

Over the years, he has led multi-platform campaigns across theatricals, streaming, linear television, consumer products and live experiences and has steered communications for such global franchises as SpongeBob SquarePants, PAW Patrol, Dora the Explorer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Bittler joined Viacom in 2000. He spearheaded the historic debut of Logo, the first ad-supported LGBTQ+ television network, and also worked at MTV Networks, Spike TV and TNN.

“It has been years of long hours, big wins, and countless challenges, and for me, time flew for all of it. I could take the pro forma route here and list all the things I’m most proud of, but that’s already on LinkedIn,” he wrote in his email to staff. “So instead of telling you what I did, I will tell you why. I did it for the audience. I did it for our people here and for our brands that mean so much to so many. But most of all, I did it for love.”

Bittler, who was instrumental in shaping Nickelodeon's brand’s image in the industry and with consumers, demonstrated his wry sense of humor with the subject line of his exit memo: “I Was Dreaming When I Wrote This.” That’s the opening line of Prince’s indelible hit “1999,” which is the year before the Nickelodeon communications executive joined the kidvid powerhouse in New York, after working in TV news communications for CNN and CNBC.

Here is his memo, which carried the subject line “I Was Dreaming When I Wrote This”:

Hello, all you beautiful people!

For those who remember, that was the MTV Networks-era opening line for so many of the speeches and email missives delivered to us, and I humbly use it today to harness that spirit to signal my departure from these storied halls of 1515 Broadway.

For so many years, this company has been a big tent party both on and off the screen(s), welcoming in fresh directions and new ideas from all paths of life as we worked together to create a wealth of groundbreaking characters, shows, experiences and moments that electrified the culture globally time and time again.

But you already know this. That’s the draw. That’s the pull. That’s what keeps us coming back day after day and year after year—to be a part of these teams, a part of this bounty of creativity, a part of it all.
And while today we find ourselves in another era of evolution, and at an exciting inflection point, this is the turn in the road where I must loosen the yoke and diverge from this pack of marvelous people and from the brands and shows I have promoted and protected for so long…like Nick and Nick at Nite, MTVN, Logo and Spike, SpongeBob and Dora, iCarly, Avatar: The Last Airbender, PAW Patrol and all the TMNTs under the sun.

It has been years of long hours, big wins, and countless challenges, and for me, time flew for all of it. I could take the pro forma route here and list all the things I’m most proud of, but that’s already on LinkedIn. Come follow me!

So instead of telling you what I did, I will tell you why. I did it for the audience. I did it for our people here and for our brands that mean so much to so many. But most of all, I did it for love.

Ciao, for now!
David
