Paramount Gives 'SpongeBob' Fan the 'Best Day Ever' In Celebration of 'SpongeBob Day' In Partnership With Make-A-Wish

Nickelodeon today (July 14) launched “SpongeBob Day,” an annual global celebration honoring the enduring cultural impact of SpongeBob SquarePants and the generations of fans that have made the franchise a worldwide phenomenon. Timed to coincide with SpongeBob SquarePants’ birthday within the animated series, the inaugural “SpongeBob Day” featured a cross-platform slate of activations designed to bring the world of Bikini Bottom to audiences of all ages everywhere.

In addition to the global festivities, “SpongeBob Day” is also creating unforgettable memories for fans in a more personal way. Through Paramount’s ongoing commitment to helping fulfill wishes with Make-A-Wish, 15-year-old Kaiden—who shares SpongeBob's July 14 birthday—was treated to a once-in-a-lifetime celebration on the Paramount Lot. Before arriving, Kaiden received a special audio message from SpongeBob welcoming her to the festivities. She and her family then toured the studio, saw her name displayed on the Paramount marquee, enjoyed lunch in a Bikini Bottom-themed private dining room and received SpongeBob-inspired gifts before celebrating with birthday cupcakes. It was a fitting reminder that, beyond the global campaigns, SpongeBob's greatest impact has always been the joy he brings to fans.

'Blue's Clues' Host Steve Burns Reunites With Make-A-Wish Patient 22 Years Later

Earlier this month, Former Blue's Clues star Steve Burns had a touching reunion with someone he'd helped when they were a child, and social media is in awe of the story. Brandon Ragland shared his story on social media and with reporters from TMZ, explaining how he had met Burns over 20 years ago through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This month, Ragland was able to thank Burns as an adult and share his story of triumph.

Ragland reportedly met Burns when he was 4 years old in an encounter set up through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. At the time, Ragland was suffering from stage 4 cancer in his kidneys and lungs, and Burns agreed to meet him and his family for dinner in New York City as well as a live stage show and a toy store shopping spree. Thankfully, Ragland recovered from his illnesses and grew up healthy, and he was able to surprise Burns with that joyous news on Dec. 11 at Steel City Con in Pennsylvania.

Ragland reportedly approached Burns' booth at the convention with a stroller carrying his own healthy baby. Ragland pulled out a photo from his childhood meeting with Burns and asked if he remembered the encounter. Burns reportedly had a flash of insight, saying: "I remember this! And you!"

The reunion quickly turned tearful for both Ragland and Burns, as they posed for a new photo together against all odds. Ragland said that Burns was ecstatic to learn that Ragland now has a family of his own. As they parted, he said: "This made my entire year and I'm so glad you're here."

Burns and Ragland have since interacted on social media and seem to be keeping up with each other that way. Ragland said that he has been in remission for 23 years now, and he is still thankful for the generosity he was shown as a child.

Burns was the first host of Blue's Clues from 1996 to 2002. The iconic Nickelodeon cartoon made him a lifelong icon to many viewers around Ragland's age, even after he left the show. Burns remained active in the show behind the scenes, and has even reprised his role in the reboot, Blue's Clues & You!. He has also been active on social media and at conventions, chatting with fans about his work. Burns is also a musician and a filmmaker in other genres as well.

Funko Introduces Philanthropic-Driven Initiative, Pops! With Purpose

Funko Introduces Philanthropic-Driven Initiative, Pops! With Purpose

Prioritizing Community Engagement, Pops! With Purpose Ties Funko Pop Culture Characters to Important Causes

Funko to Host Pops! With Purpose Auction During FunKon 2021

EVERETT, Wash.--August 03, 2021--Funko, Inc. (“Funko,” or the “Company”) (Nasdaq: FNKO), a leading pop culture consumer products company, today announced its new philanthropic driven initiative, Pops! With Purpose, tying Funko Pop! characters to causes that are important to employees, Funko fans and the greater community. The program will kick-off through an auction at FunKon 2021, followed by an expansive product assortment next year with Make-A-Wish®.

“Throughout Funko's history, community has been at the heart of all of our efforts,” explained Andrew Perlmutter, President at Funko. “When fans decide to purchase and display a Pop! With Purpose, they are signifying their support for a cause that contributes to making the world a more kind and equitable place for all.”

“We know that wishes have the ability to help children build the emotional and physical strength they need to fight a critical illness,” said LuAnn Bott, Vice President of Revenue Partnerships and Services for Make-A-Wish America. “Through the sale of their wish-inspired Pop! figures, Funko will enable even more wish kids to experience the life-changing impact of a wish come true.”

With a proven history of community engagement through the Funko Cares program, Funko’s Pops! With Purpose expands on partnerships with new and existing philanthropic organizations. Since introducing its Funko Cares Program in 2018, Funko has given back to the community through monetary and product donations.

Inspired by its diverse employee and fan base alongside a culture of inclusivity, Funko partnered with the It Gets Better Project for the second year in a row by releasing a Pops! With Purpose Pride collection. The collection featured a gradient, rainbow design on characters such as Nickelodeon's SpongeBob, Disney’s Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Deadpool, Tina Belcher from Bob’s Burgers, Pixar’s Wall-E, and more.

“Funko is a natural, value-aligned partner for the It Gets Better Project,” said It Gets Better Project Executive Director Brian Wenke. “Through their queer interpretations of iconic characters known and loved by so many, Funko is sending a message to all LGBTQ+ young people that they are not alone – and that there is a broad, multi-faceted community here to support them. Funko’s unwavering commitment to sustaining our life-affirming resources, while fueling the joy of others, is an ideal combination with the capacity to positively impact young queer people everywhere.”

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation has been a Funko Cares partner for two years, with Funko donations funding over 1,500 hours of critical research.

“Even as breast cancer cases around the world are on the rise, we’ve never been closer to eradicating this life-threatening disease,” said BCRF CEO and President Myra Biblowit. “By partnering with BCRF, Funko is supporting groundbreaking, lifesaving science. Together, we will bring the end of breast cancer into focus.”

Funko recently learned about the impactful work young people are performing across the globe through Rivet, an organization accelerating the youth revolution. Coming this fall, Funko will introduce licensed products tied to real-life heroes: Andrea Bautista Gomez, Tony Weaver and Avalon Jade Theisen. DC’s Yara Flor Future State, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, and Star Trek’s Spock Pops! will be dedicated to participating youth in the organization. The box art for each Pop! figure will feature a picture and description of Gomez, Theisen, and Weaver, respectively.

“Rivet was built on the belief that young people have the power to lead social change today, not someday. We partner with brands like Funko to fund and amplify the work of young people leading social change in their communities,” said Rivet CEO Eric Dawson. “And we could not dream of a better partnership to provide these young people with the visibility and reach they deserve.”

Inspired by employees and fans that have protected and served the United States, Funko has supported military families through its partnership with Operation Homefront. Funko’s employees participate in Operation Homefront’s Back-to-School Brigade®, an annual nationwide school supply collection and distribution campaign.

“We are excited about our growing partnership with Funko as they clearly share our commitment to helping our military families not only start strong, but also stay strong as they serve our great nation and as they transition back into their civilian communities,” said Brig. Gen. (ret.) John I. Pray Jr., President and CEO of Operation Homefront. “These collectibles will serve as a special tribute to this very deserving group of fellow Americans as we work to help them for all they have done in our nation’s time of need.”

Each Pop! With Purpose figure sold will feature a designated sticker and box art indicating that Funko has made a charitable donation to the organization. Fans can stay up-to-date on Funko’s Pops! With Purpose initiative by following Funko on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter at @OriginalFunko.

Italy’s Marco Verratti Joins 44 Cats Charity Campaign Ahead of UEFA European Football Championship

The Italian footballer and national team champion, Marco Verratti is taking on a new feline appearance ahead of the upcoming UEFA European Football Championship, through a new partnership with the country’s own animation studio, Rainbow and its popular 44 Cats franchise.

Verratti has signed a new contract with the Make a Wish Italia Onlus, the local Make a Wish Foundation, in which the football star will feature – in cat form, no less – alongside the four protagonists from 44 Cats, on a customised Italian flag designed for this year’s major tournament.

The initiative, dubbed Italia Gattastica, will see the character Gatto Marco join the line up of Lampo, Milady, Pilou, and Meatball on a flag that will be sold to fans ahead of the Euro tournament this year. The revenues from the sale of the limited edition Italian flag – now available on Rainbow’s Amazon store – will be donated to the Make A Wish Italia Onlus, the charity that makes the wishes of seriously ill children come true.

"Already big fans of sports and challenges, the Buffycats will be glued to the screen to cheer on the Italian team – with a special thought for children in need. To help them in their new mission they called Marco Verratti, ready to morph into feline champ GattoMarco!," said Rainbow.

“I’m really happy to kick off this project. The day I was asked to join this adventure my thoughts immediately turned to my children, who are huge 44 Cats fans,” said Verratti in human form.

“It was fun and stimulating to work with serious and very professional companies like Rainbow and Vanquish. Now I hope that the little fans of Buffycats and now also of Gatto Marco will like it, because during the next European Championships we will need the support and cheer of everyone. Go Azzurri! Go 44 Cats!”

New content, contests and special activities will be rolled out for the entertainment of fans during the European Championship on all 44 Cats social networks.

Produced by Rainbow in collaboration with Antoniano and Rai Ragazzi, 44 Cats is an animated hit series that has been conquering fans worldwide. The Italian-made preschool series is a mix of action, comedy, friendship and original music, that has become a global phenomenon with record ratings since its debut in November 2018 on Rai Yoyo. The series is currently in its second season.

44 Cats is on air in over 100 countries, including on Nickelodeon channels internationally, and in more than 20 languages. Populating the soundtrack of the series is a run of original songs performed by Antoniano, Italy’s most famous Piccolo Coro.

JoJo Siwa Sweetly Surprises 5-Year-Old Superfan with Virtual Hangout Through Make-A-Wish Foundation and Macy’s National Believe Week

Nickelodeon star JoJo Siwa surprised one of her biggest fans in collaboration with the Make-A-Wish foundation and Macy’s National Believe Week.

A good cause: On Saturday, a video was released to the Make-A-Wish Foundation's Instagram account featuring a video call between JoJo Siwa and a fan named Ainarah

The 17-year-old YouTube personality was featured in a video posted by the charity on Saturday in which she virtually met a five-year-old girl named Ainarah.

Ainarah, a Virginia native, was born with a neuromuscular disorder, and it was apparently her wish to get some one-on-one time with the "Hold The Drama" singer.

Siwa was very excited to meet her fan, and in the video, could be seen exclaiming, "Look at you, cutie, it's nice to meet you!"

The 17-year-old singer could be seen wearing a pink graphic printed hoodie in the video; she also wore a large pair of sunglasses and one of her trademark bows.

The two initially discussed fashion, and the singer told Ainarah that her favorite of her many bows was the one that she wears on stage; she then complemented her new friend on the bow that she had on for the hangout.

The former Dance Moms cast member then asked the Virginian to open a present that she had sent over, a bracelet from a collaboration between Macy's and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Making connections: During the video, Siwa showed off a bracelet that her and Ainarah could match in

Siwa then showed that she had a matching bracelet as well, and instructed Ainarah that every time she wore the bracelet, 'to believe, and to always remember how awesome and how amazing you are, okay?'

The two were then joined by a special guest, as Santa Claus showed up for a surprise visit in the middle of the virtual call.

The big man in red assured Ainarah that, "although this has been a very different year," he would always love her, regardless of the circumstances.

Special guest: Santa Claus showed up during the call and reminded Ainarah that he would always love her

High exposure: The singer's first single, entitled "Boomerang", was certified as double platinum  just over a year after its initial release

Siwa first gained prominence for her appearances on the Lifetime dance show Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition, after which she was featured in seasons five and six of Dance Moms.

In 2016, she released her debut single "Boomerang", which went on to be certified as double platinum by the RIAA due to its immense popularity.

The singer has a talent deal and consumer product partnerships with Nickelodeon, and has been featured in many Nickelodeon shows and made-for-TV movies, including her own specials, School of Rock, The Thundermans, Lip Sync Battle Shorties, and Blurt!.

In September, Siwa was named one of Time's 100 most influential people of the world, with her large online following being a contributing factor to her designation.

JoJo currently has a brand new Christmas holiday-themed album out, JoJo’s Rockin’ Christmas.

JoJo's Make-a-Wish's included meet and greets at her D.R.E.A.M. concert tour, however, the tour has now been postponed due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. JoJo also gives thanks to all the healthcare professionals keeping us safe, and reveals why she's staying at home. The Nickelodeon star also reveals her very own wish: for things to go back to normal so that she can continue meeting fans.

Meanwhile, Kevin Jonas in his video message said: “We know a lot of these wishes have been canceled with everything that has been going on, but we just hope you know that you are loved and we think you guys are the greatest,”

Brother and former Kids' Choice Awards host Nick Jonas then offered his words of advice. “I know these are tough times, confusing times, but I think the thing that’s helping me through it -- and maybe this will help all of you -- is I’ve been spending some time just writing,” he shared. “It could be in a journal, it could be a short story or a poem or a song. Whatever brings you happiness, that’s the thing to focus on right now.”

Added Joe Jonas: “I hope this video brings you some joy like all the Make-a-Wish kids bring me and my brothers so much joy when we get to meet you."

Ryan Reynolds also sent a video, in which he joked about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

“I know 99.99 percent of your wishes weren’t to meet me at all,” Reynolds said. “They were probably to meet The Rock. I’ve met The Rock and I can tell you that it’s well worth a wish. Anyway, hope you guys are doing OK. Just sending [because] maybe this will brighten someone’s spirits over there.”

“I love the Make-a-Wish Foundation,” he continued. “It’s been a huge part of my DNA ever since I started in show business and in every movie that I do, I look so forward to the Make-a-Wish visits. A lot of them were canceled on this film I’m doing, Red Notice, right now and then I got to thinking how there’s probably a lot of other wishes that got canceled as well, so that’s why I’m sending this video. Sending you guys tons of love.”

Gordon Ramsay, Criss Angel, Terry Crews (NINE NINE!) and athletes also shared video messages for the organization.
