Hulu Adds ViacomCBS Networks to Live TV Service

Hulu, more than four years after launching its live TV service, has added ViacomCBS’ cable networks to the line-up.

Starting Friday (April 30), nine ViacomCBS networks will be available on Hulu + Live TV: Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Comedy Central, BET, VH1, CMT, MTV, TV Land and Paramount Network. The price of the streaming package will remain at $64.99/month (with SVOD ads) and $70.99/month (with no SVOD ads).

Another five ViacomCBS linear nets — NickToons, TeenNick, BET Her, MTV2 and MTV Classic — will be available in Hulu’s Entertainment add-on package (which remains priced at $7.99/month extra). The other channels in that package are CNBC, American Heroes Channel, World Cooking Channel, Crime + Investigation, Destination America, Discovery Family, Discovery Life, DIY, Great American Country, Military History Channel and Science.

In addition, under the distribution deal between Disney’s Hulu and ViacomCBS, Hulu will add a collection of library shows from the media company to its on-demand service, including Sister Sister, Moesha and Freaks and Geeks.

“We are excited to have reached an expanded agreement with Hulu that underscores the value of our powerful portfolio of brands to next-generation TV platforms and viewers,” said Ray Hopkins, President, U.S. Networks Distribution, ViacomCBS when the deal was first announced in January. “Hulu continues to be a great partner, and this agreement ensures that Hulu + Live TV subscribers are now able to enjoy the full breadth of our leading content across news, sports and entertainment for the first time.”

It’s another example of co-opetition among media conglomerates as direct-to-consumer streaming era is in full swing. In early March, ViacomCBS rebranded — and expanded — the CBS All Access service to become Paramount+. Disney has been aggressively pushing its streaming products worldwide, including offering a discounted bundle of Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Plus in the U.S.

Hulu + Live TV now offers more than 75 live TV channels in the baseline package. Customers also get access to the core Hulu on-demand service (which costs $5.99/month with ads or $11.99/month without ads as a standalone offering).

From Deadline:

ViacomCBS Sets Expanded Distribution Deal With Disney’s Hulu + Live TV

ViacomCBS has set an expanded distribution deal with Disney’s Hulu + Live TV, which is now the fifth-largest U.S. pay-TV provider.

Financial terms of the multi-year agreement were not disclosed. It continues carriage for CBS broadcast stations, CBS Sports Network, Pop TV, Smithsonian Channel, and the CW, as well as Showtime’s pay streaming service. The deal also adds BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, VH1, CMT, Nick Jr., TV Land, BET Her, MTV2, NickToons, TeenNick and MTV Classic to the streaming bundle.

Disney reported last November that Hulu + Live TV, which launched in 2017, has 4.1 million subscribers, making it the No. 5 U.S. pay-TV distributor. It is the leader in the internet-delivered bundle sector, ahead of YouTube TV and Sling TV, its closest rivals.

Since the merger of Viacom and CBS in December 2018, the combined company has secured distribution deals with YouTube TV as well as Comcast, Dish and Verizon, plus affiliate deals with major station owners Nexstar, Meredith, Cox and Sinclair. When CEO Bob Bakish took the helm at Viacom several years ago, he made distribution a priority after it had languished under predecessor Philippe Dauman.

All major TV programmers face increasing pressure on distribution and advertising revenue from their legacy linear networks. Like its peers, ViacomCBS is increasingly emphasizing streaming, planning to roll out a rebranded Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) later this year as it manages through ongoing declines in viewership and advertising in the traditional pay-TV bundle.

“We are excited to have reached an expanded agreement with Hulu that underscores the value of our powerful portfolio of brands to next-generation TV platforms and viewers,” said Ray Hopkins, President, U.S. Networks Distribution, ViacomCBS. “Hulu continues to be a great partner, and this agreement ensures that Hulu + Live TV subscribers are now able to enjoy the full breadth of our leading content across news, sports and entertainment for the first time.”

MTV, Nickelodeon Added to Hulu Live TV Bundle in Expansive ViacomCBS Deal

Channels including BET, Comedy Central and Paramount Network will also join the streamer's live television offering.

ViacomCBS has reached an agreement with Hulu to distribution its portfolio of cable channels on via streamer's live television bundle.

The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, means that channels including BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon and Paramount Network will be available through the Hulu + Live TV bundle for the first time. It also includes continued carriage of CBS, CBS Sports Network, Pop TV, Smithsonian Channel and The CW. Premium cable channel Showtime also remains available as an add-on for Hulu live TV subscribers.

"Hulu continues to be a great partner, and this agreement ensures that Hulu + Live TV subscribers are now able to enjoy the full breadth of our leading content across news, sports and entertainment for the first time," ViacomCBS U.S. Networks Distribution president Ray Hopkins said in a statement.

When Hulu launched its live TV bundle in 2017, it did so without Viacom's portfolio of cable channels. At the time, Viacom CEO Bob Bakish had said that the company would be "highly selective" about its streaming distribution partners going forward. But in the three years since, streaming has become a primary means of watching entertainment programming in the U.S. In May 2020, Viacom CBS inked a carriage agreement with YouTube TV to carry its cable channels.

With the Hulu deal, ViacomCBS is now carried on all major over-the-top live TV bundles. Disney-owned Hulu has more than 4 million subscribers to its live TV bundle. The streamer, which has nearly 39 million total subscribers, recently increased the cost of a live TV subscription from $55 to $65.

From Variety:

Hulu Inks ViacomCBS Deal to Add 14 Cable Networks to Live TV Package

Disney’s Hulu + Live TV subscribers will — finally — get Comedy Central, MTV, Nick, BET and other legacy Viacom cable channels as part of their lineup.

ViacomCBS announced a new multiyear distribution agreement with Hulu, under which Hulu’s live TV subscription streaming service will add 14 cable networks: BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, VH1, CMT, Nick Jr., TV Land, BET Her, MTV2, NickToons, TeenNick and MTV Classic. The companies declined to specify the date when those networks will be available to Hulu + Live TV customers.

Hulu’s live TV package has lacked the legacy-Viacom nets ever since its spring 2017 debut. ViacomCBS’s agreement with Hulu comes after the media conglomerate secured a similar deal last spring with Google’s YouTube TV, which also had not previously carried the 14 cable networks. In ViacomCBS’s first year as a combined company, it also has inked renewals with pay-TV providers including Comcast, Dish Network and Verizon.

The 14 Viacom channels are joining Hulu + Live TV after Disney hiked rates for the internet pay-TV package by $10 per month as of Dec. 18, 2020. Under the new pricing, the baseline Hulu + Live TV tier with ad-supported VOD rose to $64.99 per month, an 18% increase.

The multiyear pact between ViacomCBS and Disney-controlled Hulu includes continued carriage in the live TV service of CBS broadcast stations, as well as CBS Sports Network, Pop TV, Smithsonian Channel, and the CW, as well as continued distribution of Showtime as an add-on.

“Hulu continues to be a great partner, and this agreement ensures that Hulu + Live TV subscribers are now able to enjoy the full breadth of our leading content across news, sports and entertainment for the first time,” Ray Hopkins, ViacomCBS president of U.S. networks distribution, said in a statement.

At its investor day last month, Disney said Hulu had 38.8 million subscribers as of Dec. 2, including more than 4.1 million live TV customers. That’s up from 30.4 million subs overall (including 3.2 million with live TV) at the end of 2019.

Notably, Disney and ViacomCBS are both competing for share in the growing direct-to-consumer subscription space. In early 2021, ViacomCBS is gearing up for the rebranding of CBS All Access as Paramount Plus.

###

Hulu + Live TV adds Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and more ViacomCBS networks

Hulu + Live TV is expanding its agreement with ViacomCBS to include 14 additional networks including Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET and Paramount Network.

The new multi-year deal includes continued carriage of CBS broadcast stations, CBS Sports Network, Pop TV, Smithsonian Channel, and The CW along with continued distribution of Showtime. The deal also introduces additional channels including VH1, CMT, Nick Jr., TV Land, BET Her, MTV2, NickToons, TeenNick and MTV Classic.

“We are excited to have reached an expanded agreement with Hulu that underscores the value of our powerful portfolio of brands to next-generation TV platforms and viewers,” said Ray Hopkins, president U.S. Networks Distribution ViacomCBS, in a statement. “Hulu continues to be a great partner, and this agreement ensures that Hulu + Live TV subscribers are now able to enjoy the full breadth of our leading content across news, sports and entertainment for the first time.”

The channel lineup expansion arrives not long after Hulu + Live TV raised its monthly price from $55 to $65 – the cost of Hulu with no ads plus live TV increased from $61/month to $71/month. The price hike brought Hulu’s rates in line with competitors including YouTube TV and fuboTV.

Hulu + Live TV ended the third quarter of 2020 with 4.1 million subscribers, making it the largest U.S. virtual MVPD and bigger than many traditional MVPDs including Verizon Fios.

After a sequential slowdown, Hulu + Live TV picked up speed and added 700,000 subscribers in the third quarter, up 41% year over year. Disney said average monthly revenue per paid subscriber for the Hulu + Live TV rose from $58.82 to $71.90 year over year thanks to a retail pricing increase and higher live TV per-subscriber advertising revenue.

Season 3 Trailer | Find Me In Paris

Find Me In Paris is a fun fish out of water story about Lena Grisky, a Russian Princess and student at the Paris Opera Ballet School that accidentally time travels to present day. In Find Me In Paris Lena must quickly adapt to modern advances like technology, teen slang, and fashionable clothes. Lena tries to keep her secret and hide from the dangerous Time Collectors. Have fun watching the series Find Me In Paris on this official channel and this episode of Max and Isaac.

It's currently unknown whether Nickelodeon UK & Ireland will air Find Me in Paris season three, however, the first two seasons performed very well for the channel with the series becoming a firm fan-favourite, so its more than likely that Nick will acquire the rights to the third season.

Filmed in Paris – including at the Garnier Opera House – the new season will also travel to the French Riviera, where the students participate in an international dance workshop, and Brussels. Principal photography commenced in July 2019.

The new season will comprise 26 half hours, bringing the series to a total of 78 episodes.

In Season 3, Lena seeks to find who she is and why everyone is so interested in her and her timepiece. When she and her friends attend a dance workshop in the South of France, they have to fight for the only spot available in the company. What will Lena do when the Time Bureau comes for her and tries to bring her back to 1905?

“The new season will push the boat out even further with exciting storylines, new characters, compelling dance sequences, and new locations that we have no doubt will continue to thrill and entertain viewers,” said David Michel, president of Cottonwood Media and managing director of Federation Kids & Family.

'Dora and the Lost City of Gold' to Swing Onto Hulu and Amazon on Monday, August 3, 2020

U.S. streaming service Hulu will add Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures' live-action movie based on Nickelodeon's beloved animated preschool series Dora the Explorer, to its programming library on Monday, August 3, 2020!

Update: Amazon Prime Video will also be adding Dora the Explorer on Monday, August 3, 2020!

Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – high school. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeff Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.

11-time Emmy and four-time BAFTA nominee director James Bobin (Alice Through the Looking Glass) has assembled a cast of diverse superstars to star in the movie, including: Isabela Moner (100 rzeczy do przeżycia przed liceum, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Transformers: The Last Knight) as Dora, Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives, Overboard) as Dora's mother, Elena; Michael Peña as Dora's father; Eugenio Derbez (Overboard, Instructions Not Included; How to Be A Latin Lover), who plays Alejandro, a mysterious jungle inhabitant who tries to protect the teenagers from the marauders; Jeffrey Wahlberg (Future World, Ballers, Counterpart, Reefa) in the role of cousin Diego; Nicholas Coombe (Spy Kids: Mission Control, Midnight Sun) as Randy, a fellow high schooler who develops an immediate crush on Dora; Madeleine Madden (Picnic at Hanging Rock, Tidelands) as the school’s snooty class president, Sammy; Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza (Babel, Amores Perros, Thor, The 33) as Dora’s grandma, Abuelita Valerie; Temuera Morrison (Green Lantern, Moana), who will play the role of Powell; Q’orianka Kilcher (The Alienist), who will play Inca Princess Kawillaka; Pia Miller (Home and Away) as Dora's aunt Mami; Madelyn Miranda, who portrays Young Dora; Benicio del Toro as the voice of Swiper the fox, Danny Trejo as the voice of Boots the Monkey; and Marc Weiner (Dora the Explorer, Go, Diego, Go!, Dora and Friends: Into the City, Weinerville) as the voice of Map.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold is directed by James Bobin, produced by Christopher Robin producer Kristin Burr, who is joined by longtime Bobin associate, executive producer John G. Scotti (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted, Alice Through the Looking Glass) as well as executive producers Julia Pistor (The Spiderwick Chronicles, A Series of Unfortunate Events) and Eugenio Derbez. Tom Wheeler wrote the story, and Nicholas Stoller and Matthew Robinson penned the screenplay. Walden Media is co-financing and co-producing the film with Paramount. Dora and the Lost City of Gold was filmed entirely in Australia’s Gold Coast, in the state of Queensland on the continent’s east coast south of Brisbane.

Netflix Confirms No Current Plans to Add 'Drake & Josh'

A viral tweet that said that Netflix could potentially be adding Nickelodeon's hit noughties comedy series Drake & Josh to its programming library has been debunked by the popular streaming service.

Drake & Josh follows a pair of stepbrothers with very different personalities. In the series, Bell played charming, work-averse ladies' man Drake Parker who pulled his ever-responsible and sensitive stepbrother Josh Nichols (Josh Peck) into perpetual hi-jinks. Shared antics cement a growing brotherly bond, while perennial teen issues and dilemmas came to light. Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly, Yours, Mine & Ours, The School of Rock) co-starred as Drake and Josh's little sister, Megan, a mischievous kid with a penchant for pulling practical jokes, especially on her older brothers. Nancy Sullivan (The Amanda Show) and Jonathan Goldstein (The Middle) played their loving parents Audrey Parker and Walter Nichols. Drake & Josh was created by Nickelodeon hit maker Dan Schneider, the creator, writer, and producer of hit Nickelodeon shows such as iCarly, Henry Danger, Game Shakers, Victorious, The Amanda Show, Zoey 101, Kenan & Kel, All That" (plus What I Like About You, which Nickelodeon UK showed in the mid-2000's), and the Nickelodeon Movie Good Burger. Drake & Josh originally ran on Nickelodeon between 2004 and 2008, and features two TV movies - Drake & Josh Go Hollywood and Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh, and a TV special Really Big Shrimp.

The series has been exclusive to Netflix rival Hulu up until now and will continue to after today’s revelation.

The viral tweet in question started making the rounds after it was tweeted on September 21st. The tweet says simply “Yo twitter let’s make it happen” with an image of a Direct Message (DM) chat with Netflix asking how many retweets it would take to get Drake and Josh streaming. This sort of tweet circulates constantly but usually fades out after a while, out but this one, in particular, went viral. Is Megan behind this?

Netflix usually doesn’t comment on rampant speculation or things like this but did so with this tweet responding in two ways. The first was to debunk the direct message chat by saying “Love the passion but that DM is photoshopped. Sorry!”. It then follows up with a retweet suggesting Drake & Josh fans check out Hulu. In true Drake & Josh style, Hulu extends a hug to Netflix in response.

Although the majority of Nickelodeon programming is staying off Netflix for the time being, Netflix will be adding a brand-new Nickelodeon show called Pinky Malinky very soon. Netflix is also partnering with Nickelodeon to produce its brand-new live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series.

Drake & Josh isn't the first Nickelodeon show to be targeted by a fake Tweet. Each year, a rumour that SpongeBob SquarePants has been cancelled circulates, with this years being so widespread that Nickelodeon had to confirm that the beloved animated series isn't going anywhere soon.

Hulu Inks Viacom Licensing Deal, Lands Streaming Rights to 11 Nickelodeon Shows And More Than 20 Nick Movies [Updated]

Hulu and Viacom, which have had previous deals for shows including South Park, announced a comprehensive new agreement to bring hundreds of series episodes and 20-plus films to the streaming service, including exclusive streaming access to the full libraries of series including MTV’s Daria and My Super Sweet 16, Comedy Central’s Nathan for You, and BET’s The New Edition Story!

Under the new agreement with Viacom, Hulu is now the exclusive subscription-streaming home to all five seasons of Daria, originally a spin-off of Beavis and Butt-Head. Previously, Daria was available on Amazon Prime Video. The deal comes four days after MTV announced that it would relaunch MTV Studios with plans to reboot some of its classic hits, including Daria and The Real World. The new Daria series, Daria and Jodie, comes from writer Grace Edwards and will be told through the eyes of Daria Morgendorrfer and one of her closest friends. Daria originally aired on MTV from 1997-2002.

The deal also brings 11 series and more than 20 films from Nickelodeon to Hulu. Viacom-owned titles now available to stream on Hulu include Harvey Beaks, Big Time Rush, School of Rock, Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, Hunter Street, Make It Pop, Every Witch Way and WITS Academy.

Also returning to Hulu will be Nickelodeon series Alvinnnn!!! and the Chipmunks, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness and Penguins of Madagascar. More series and films from Nickelodeon will continue to roll out throughout the year.

As of this writing, the Nickelodeon programming currently available to watch on Hulu is:

TV Shows:

- ALVINNN!!! and The Chipmunks (52 episodes)

- Bella and the Bulldogs (39 episodes)

- Big Time Rush (69 episodes)

- Breadwinners (40 episodes)

- Danny Phantom (49 episodes)

- Doug (52 episodes)

- Drake & Josh (47 episodes)

- Every Witch Way (80 episodes)

- Harvey Beaks (52 episodes)

- Hey Arnold! (99 episodes)

- Rugrats (166 episodes)

- Sanjay and Craig (60 episodes)

- School of Rock (45 episodes)

- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (120 episodes)

- The Boy Who Cried Werewolf

- Jinxed

- Legends of the Hidden Temple

- Liar, Liar, Vampire

- One Crazy Cruise

- Rufus

- Rufus 2

- Rugrats: Tales from the Crib: Snow White

- Rugrats: Tales from the Crib: Three Jacks and a Bean Stalk

“The new deal is part of Hulu’s commitment to expanding its library with programming for the whole family,” the company said in its official announcement. “More series and films from Nickelodeon will continue to roll out throughout the year.”

Viacom has promised to launch a stand-alone OTT service by the end of 2018, but has offered few details about it. That initiative comes as Disney is pulling its titles from Netflix in advance of launching its own direct-to-consumer service by the end of 2019.

My Super Sweet 16, which documents the birthday parties of wealthy children, originally aired from 2005-2008 on MTV. It was revived at the network in 2017.

Viacom networks will still be excluded from the Hulu With Live TV service for the time being.

Hulu has been bulking up on kids and family programming in recent months. In May, the streamer — which is jointly owned by 21st Century Fox, Disney, NBCUniversal and Time Warner — inked a multi-year deal with DreamWorks Animation to become the exclusive streaming home to the studio's film library and to work with its TV division on new original series. The expansion is part of Hulu's overall growth in the streaming video marketplace through the launch of its live TV product and the growing buzz around originals like The Handmaid's Tale. The service now has more than 20 million subscribers.

However, Hulu’s strategic direction and ownership is currently hanging in the balance as Comcast and Disney battle for control of 21st Century Fox. The streaming service is currently 30%-owned by Comcast’s NBCUniversal, Disney and Fox, with WarnerMedia owning the remaining 10%. Having a majority owner will likely bring changes to Hulu as it competes with Netflix and Amazon in the U.S. SVOD market.

Viacom’s CFO Says They Hope To Be On OTT Services Like Hulu & YouTube TV 'Eventually'

Just over a year ago, Viacom pulled their programming from over-the-top subscription services PlayStation Vue and Hulu. According to Viacom at the time they wanted to focus on cable TV service instead of streaming services. Now it looks like Viacom may be having second thoughts.

Speaking at the Gabelli Annual Movie and Entertainment Conference earlier this week, Viacom CFO Wade Davis acknowledged that he is well aware that Viacom channels like Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and MTV and don’t show up on Hulu with Live TV or YouTube TV, but thinks they will be added eventually.

Davis pointed out that Viacom is present in the virtual multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD) world and got in a slight dig at the vMVPDs that don’t carry Viacom.

“We’re extremely well-represented in the traditional distributor lead virtual MVPDs, that’s Sling TV and DirecTV Now. And those are really the virtual MVPDs that matter,” Davis said. “We’d love to be on [Hulu and YouTube TV], we’re in discussions with those guys all the time and we’re optimistic that we’re going to … make progress with some of the virtual MVPDs that we’re not on.”

But he said that the real growth from a vMVPD standpoint is going to continue to be driven from the traditional distributors. The two most significant parts of the vMVPD business are content cost and subscriber acquisition, and those are areas where the traditional distributors have incredible advantages versus new entrants in the space, he said, while anticipating further growth from other traditional distributors entering the vMVPD market.

While this is good news for many, it is important to mention that Davis did not mention PlayStation Vue.

In terms of traditional distributors launching vMVPDs, Dish Network and DirecTV are really the only ones so far; though it’s worth noting that Comcast is a part-owner of Hulu. Verizon has said that it is no longer interested in launching a streaming TV service, and the U.S. cable operators that offer streaming TV services typically do so only within their footprints.

As of April 2018, DirecTV Now had about 1.5 million subscribers, and in February 2018 Dish revealed that Sling TV has 2.2 million subscribers. YouTube TV has yet to divulge any subscriber numbers, but Hulu said late last month it now has 800,000 subscribers (out of 20 million total) opting for its live TV service.

So what is holding Viacom back from expanding its OTT footprint right now? There is likely to be quite a couple issues holding Viacom back. Firstly, Viacom is pushing for a re-merger with CBS. It is possible they want to finish the merger before they agree to any new deals. Viacom is also likely hoping to hold out for a better deal to get more money from YouTube TV and Hulu.

The news follows Viacom revealing earlier this year that it hopes to launch its own streaming service during Fall 2018.

Hulu also recently added an offering of blockbuster films and new titles from Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM in a deal with EPIX.

Over the past year, Hulu has significantly expanded its offering of exclusive programming, including all episodes of FOX's breakout hit series Empire, Seinfeld, CSI, Brooklyn Nine Nine, The Mindy Project, The Goldbergs, The Last Man On Earth and more.
