'Stray Dog' - A Mysterious Nickelodeon Show | Nickelodeon Lost Content

Looking through Nickelodeon's "Thankyou Nickelodeon" 1998/99 sales tape, I spotted what seems to be a pilot for Nickelodeon show that either didn't make to series, or became an entirely different series.

Stray Dog

Nickelodeon's 1998/99 sales tape features a segment for a show titled Stray Dog. Although the sequence is only a few seconds long, judging from the footage, it would of featured a young girl (either in her pre-teens or early-teens) and a heroic dog. From the footage, the dog would of saved people in dangerous situations, such as grizzly bear attacks and bike accidents. The surroundings of which the show was set are also snow covered.

Stray Dog

Although Stray Dog never made it to air, it could have ended up being a different Nickelodeon show entirely.

In October 1999, Nickelodeon premiered 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd, a comedy created for the network by Steven H. Berman, Mitchel Katlin, and Nat Bernstein.

100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd

In 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd, Eddie McDowd (Jason Dohring) is considered to be a schoolyard bully by his peers. He considers himself very attractive and powerful and so he bullies others without mercy. One day, while bullying a kid after school, he is caught by a mysterious man. He tells McDowd that due to his bullying he will be punished for his wrongdoings by living life as a dog, and that in order to be restored as a human he has to do 100 good deeds for others.

Besides The Drifter, the only one who can hear him talk (voiced by Seth Green in Season 1, Jason Hervey in Season 2–3) is Justin Taylor (Brandon Gilberstadt), who happens the last kid he bullied. At first the two are firmly against the idea, but McDowd realizes that he must work alongside Justin and his family to finish his good deeds. Every time Eddie performs a good deed the Drifter appears with a creatively presented number stating the remaining deeds he has left. Occasionally when Eddie misbehaves the Drifter takes away one of his deeds.

The series ran for 40 episodes across three seasons until April 21, 2002, meaning that the story has no ending as the series was cancelled before a final resolution could be made.

Whilst both Stray Dog and 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd seem to be different series, they also share a lot of similarities. Both feature stray dogs (Eddie - in dog form - and Justin first meet each other at their local dog shelter). The only real differences is the gender of the dog's friend - a girl in Stray Dog and a boy in Eddie McDowd - and the breed of the dog (whilst I'm not entirely sure what breed the dog in Stray Dog is, Eddie is a Australian Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix).

Whilst there's not much information about Stray Dog, it could be that Stray Dog was the working title of 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd, and the footage featured in the sizzle tape was from an early pilot, before producers changed certain aspects of it.

And whilst we don't know what actually became of Stray Dog, it's a neat bit of Nickelodeon Lost Content. Check out more screenshots from Stray Dog below!

Nickelodeon Unveils First Look at 'It's Pony' & 'Glitch Techs'

Viacom International Media Networks Africa (VIMN Africa) has unveiled super first looks at Nickelodeon's upcoming upcoming animated series It's Pony and Glitch Techs! The video is available to watch now at https://www.viacom-africa.com!

It's Pony is an original 2D-animated buddy comedy that follows the life of an average girl, Annie, her (almost) average family and what happens when an excitable, unpredictable, loveable and talking pony comes to live with them in their city apartment. Pony is the first animated comedy series to be greenlit for the U.S. from Nickelodeon International. Created by Ant Blades, It's Pony (originally titled Pony) is based off a short of the same name from Nickelodeon’s 2015 International Animated Shorts Program. Nickelodeon greenlit the series for an initial 20-episodes in March 2018.

Pony follows Annie’s everyday life as a 9-year-old, from working at her parent’s city farm, located on their apartment balcony, homework, school friends and, most importantly, her friendship with Pony. Pony is Annie’s biggest cheerleader and best friend, although sometimes his optimism and enthusiasm lands the pair in unusual situations.

Ant Blades started his creative career writing and drawing for the cartoon strip Bewley. After his short stint as an animator, Blades worked for years in the digital creative industry before moving back to the animation field and setting up Birdbox, a studio that produces commercials, on-air spots and funny short films.

Nickelodeon’s International Animated Shorts Program is now a monthly themed outreach effort for original and funny content to fuel its dynamic development slate. Concepts for the program are received in all animation styles from 2D, digital 2D, stop motion, CG and mixed media. Finalists are provided with the necessary artistic and production support to help them complete their fully animated original, humor-based and character-driven short.

It's Pony is being produced in London, UK by Blue Zoo, which has produced on-air presentation for Nick Jr. UK & Ireland, as well as series such as Nick Jr.'s Digby Dragon and Olive the Ostrich, and shows such as Miffy’s Adventures Big and Small and Q Pootle 5.

Something Glitchy This Way Comes.. Nickelodeon's brand-new animated adventure-comedy series follows two newly recruited kids as they battle video game monsters that come to life in the real world.

This brand new animated series features High Five and Miko, two gamers who are recruited into the world of Glitch Techs: kids who battle the video game glitches that enter our world through faulty game consoles!

In the world of Glitch Techs, Hinobi is a huge gaming and tech company that makes massively popular video games consoles. What Hinobi customers do NOT know is that their games sometimes glitch and release dangerous video game creatures into the real world! That’s when the company send the Glitch Techs: a trained support team equipped with an arsenal of fantastic gaming gear designed to capture video game pests and out them back where they belong!

Once a glitch is returned, the Techs must remove any evidence it was there – including the memories of any witnesses! Not only do Glitch Techs fight for the safety of the city, they also work at Hinobi stores, helping customers with tech support and service needs.

Enter Miko and high Five – new recruits who fight glitches and reformat witnesses all before the store closes at 5pm. Talk about a crazy job! Respect the Tech!

Glitch Techs comes from Eric Robles (Fanboy & Chum Chum, The X's, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan) and Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape), both hailing from Nickelodeon's Artist Collective, an internal artist-led development program, and is produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif. Nickelodeon has picked-up Glitch Techs for an initial 20-episode first season. A second season was commissioned, however, Nickelodeon halted production half-way through.

Glitch Techs will boast a multi-ethnic cast, including a Muslim-American female character who will wear a hijab. At a industry panel held late last year, the co-creators explained that when they were developing Glitch Techs, they “recognized the need to incorporate characters reflective of the viewing audience, whether they are background characters or main characters,” and revealed that they had worked with MPAC (Muslim Public Affairs Council) to “figure out how to accurately display an authenticity, even down to little behaviors.” Dan Milano further elaborated, “Even though we’re an animated show and they are trying to catch creatures, we want small things. We want to know that a stray hair came out of that hijab, and she had to tuck it behind her ear because that’s a human moment, that’s a practical moment, from everyday life.”

It was recently announced that Emmy-award winning actor Bryton James (Winx Club, The Young and the Restless) will be voicing a character in Nickelodeon Glitch Techs.
