Paramount Planning to Shift Its Corporate Headquarters To L.A., Keeping Skydance Base In Santa Monica

Paramount, A Skydance Corporation, will now be Paramount, an L.A.-based operation.

After the $8.4 billion merger of Paramount and Skydance formally closed on Thursday, August 7, company leaders visited New York for a press conference. One detail to emerge from that 90-minute gathering was the fact that Paramount, whose corporate predecessors, Paramount Global, ViacomCBS, Viacom and CBS Corp., were all strongly identified with New York, will now be headquartered in L.A.

Plans call for the company’s official base to be on the fabled Melrose lot, executives said, though the press conference was held mere hours after the deal’s close, meaning plenty of decisions are still at a formative stage. As it sets up shop in that century-old Hollywood redoubt, Skydance Media would also preserve Santa Monica base. Hundreds of employees work at the Olympic Boulevard site in divisions focused on sports, animation and other areas.

Where companies are officially headquartered is not as significant as it was in the pre-digital age. Thanks to technology, shareholder meetings and other corporate functions can be handled by a number of remote offices, of which the newly merged Paramount has several. Yet the main corporate address of any company can be a defining characteristic. Just ask people in Battle Creek, MI about breakfast cereal.

With the move, Paramount would become the largest L.A.-based media company apart from Disney. Skydance brass were already mostly based in L.A., so the move makes sense in that way. Advertising sales, investor relations and numerous other corporate functions will still be New York-based.

In the company’s current Times Square digs, which has seen multiple renovation projects over the years, changes could well be coming. The building, at 1515 Broadway (site of MTV’s Total Request Live as well as late corporate founder Sumner Redstone’s home away from home at various stages of empire-building), could soon be in the media rear-view mirror. Already, CBS had vacated “Black Rock,” its longtime offices on West 52nd Street and Avenue of the Americas, when the previous regime decided to sell the building. A Caesar’s Palace casino has been proposed for the Times Square building, which could be a little too on-the-nose for staffers placing bets on the fortunes of film, TV and streaming hopefuls.

Speculation has it that the CBS News production facilities along West 57th Street on Manhattan’s Far West Side could be a nexus for the new Paramount’s New York operations. With news and sports talent coming and going there, and with corporate brass mostly in L.A., there is a logic to fortifying the site. It’s hard to find many blocks in New York City that are in need of an upgrade as rents and real estate values continue to surge, but certain pockets of 57th Street around 10th and 11th Avenues surrounding the CBS building have seen better days. City officials may want to hear out Paramount’s ideas for an expanded presence in the neighborhood, which is in a lower-profile pocket north of Hudson Yards but also south of the Upper West Side.

Nickelodeon-wise, the brand has presences on both the West and East Coast, including Nickelodeon Studios in Burbank, California, and 1515 Broadway in New York.

Nickelodeon Welcomes Young Influencer Mirko Wiebe to New York City

Nickelodeon recently gave Mirko Wiebe a Broadway welcome by lighting up Times Square in New York City with a large billboard poster featuring the young Argentine influencer and his father, Telefe TV host Alejandro "Marley" Wiebe!

From GENTE:

ViacomCBS Eyes Return to Work After July 4 Holiday, CEO Bob Bakish Says

Time to pry open the legendary gates of Paramount Pictures.

ViacomCBS leadership has set a tentative timeline for employees to return to the media giant’s numerous offices, though in limited capacity, as COVID-19 (coronavirus) vaccines continue to rollout across the country and around the world, Variety reports.

In a memo released from CEO Bob Bakish released on Thursday, March 11, the executive outlined plans to return as early as just after the upcoming July 4 holiday.

“Return to office dates will differ market by market based on local conditions, and may happen at different times in some international locations, but based on projections from current vaccination and infection rates, among other factors, we now anticipate that U.S. employees will have the option of returning to our offices starting after the July 4th weekend, at the earliest,” Bakish wrote.

Bakish underscored that the return would be “limited, optional and completely voluntary,” and under the strictest safety criteria, including ongoing COVID-19 testing, masking and social distance.

The conglomerate’s offices include Nickelodeon Studios in Burbank, California, the Paramount Pictures lot and the various New York-based studios and suites for its broadcast and cable divisions including Nickelodeon, CBS and MTV.

Read the full memo:

Team,

This month marks one year since most of us began working in unprecedented ways due to COVID-19, joining those on our international teams who were already being impacted by this pandemic. A majority of us have been working from home full-time, while many of you have had to reinvent your roles to ensure our productions continue safely, and our systems run smoothly.

I am so grateful for how this company has navigated through all of these changes. You have adjusted to the impacts of a historic merger while simultaneously dealing with the hardship of a global pandemic, including, for many, the devastating loss of loved ones and friends. You’ve united to overcome professional and personal challenges with resiliency, adaptability, agility and optimism. Thanks to your efforts, our business continues to thrive, as seen in the monumental launch of Paramount+ last week – a remarkable accomplishment especially given the circumstances.

In addition to making headway on our business goals, we’re also progressing in our return-to-office planning. We continue to closely monitor developments as conditions improve, and are working with medical experts to develop a comprehensive plan that prioritizes your health and safety. Return to office dates will differ market by market based on local conditions, and may happen at different times in some international locations, but based on projections from current vaccination and infection rates, among other factors, we now anticipate that U.S. employees will have the option of returning to our offices starting after the July 4th weekend, at the earliest.

This initial phase of our return – expected to last at least a few months – will be limited, optional and completely voluntary. We anticipate that we will continue to operate under strict safety criteria, including testing, mandatory mask wearing and social distancing.

Our current plan is to initially cap capacity in our buildings to maintain social distancing and manage elevator capacity; we will gradually increase capacity based on careful review of health metrics and our testing systems.

In the coming weeks, we will provide another update about the sign-up process and additional information.

This planning fits into our broader effort to evolve our workplace for the long term, including the transition for everyone to return in a hybrid, fully remote or fully onsite model of work after the phased-in voluntary period.

I know this past year has not been easy, and the current dynamics remain challenging for everyone. But, you continue to show up for one another during this difficult time, even while juggling the demands of work and home, including your responsibilities as parents, caregivers, partners and family members. Please remember to take time off to rest and recharge, and do your part to promote a culture of empathy, patience and flexibility.

I also encourage you to consult our resources to help manage your work-life balance. Today, I’m pleased to share our Guide to Sustaining Remote Work, where you’ll find tips and advice to navigate common challenges of working remotely, including how to address “Zoom Fatigue,” set healthy boundaries and advance your career and personal development. We’ll continue to share similar tools, and make them accessible on the ViacomCBS Brand and Resource Center.

Next month, we’ll be holding a BOB LIVE townhall to discuss all these updates (and more), and, as always, I look forward to this opportunity to hear from you and answer your questions. In the meantime, let’s continue to build off our momentum and be there for each other. You are doing an incredible job – it is really shining through – so thank you for all the time and energy you put into this company, our brands and our organization.

Best,
Bob

'Drake & Josh' Stars Drake Bell & Josh Peck Reunite for a Business Meeting at Viacom's L.A. HQ

Just what are Drake Bell and Josh Peck up to together?!

The 32-year-old Drake & Josh co-stars were seen meeting up with each other at the Viacom building on Wednesday (March 13) in Los Angeles, California, Just Jared Jr. reports. Viacom is the parent of the Nickelodeon brand.

The two actors starred in their hit series Drake & Josh together on Nickelodeon from 2004 to 2007 across four seasons (plus pair of TV movies that premiered on the network in 2006 and 2008). The series followed stepbrothers Drake Parker (Bell) and Josh Nichols (Peck) as they lived together despite having opposite personalities.

Are the two reuniting for a possible reboot, or at least a new project together? Josh is set to make an appearance at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards 2019 on March 23, could there be a reunion planned?

“There were our ups and downs about it, but man, I’d go back in a second,” Drake recently said in an interview of a potential reboot. It looks like something might be happening after all!

A Drake & Josh revival wouldn't be out of the question. Nickelodeon is in the midst of reviving some of the network's most popular shows. Rugrats for example, is being rebooted for not only a Nickelodeon TV show, but a CGI/live-action movie as well. Nickelodeon also announced that Rocko's Modern Life would be returning to the network with a TV movie, as well as Invader Zim, which will likely be getting its TV movie in 2019. Nickelodeon also revived Legends of the Hidden Temple and Hey Arnold! for TV movies, which aired in 2016 and 2017, respectively, and has also revived Double Dare. Nickelodeon is also in the planning stages to revive Clarissa Explains It All and Are You Afraid of the Dark? as a movie and miniseries, and will be reviving All That with a all-new cast as well as old favorites in Summer 2019.

Drake and Josh have reunited several times over the last couple of years, including for a video in which they sing Drake's latest hit, Fuego Lento and learn a bit of Spanish.

Viacom International Media Network Americas Opens New Headquarters in Downtown Miami

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) The Americas today, Wednesday 20th February 2019, opened its brand-new headquarters in downtown Miami, Florida!

Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Executive Director Alyce Robertson, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, VIMN Americas president Pierluigi Gazzolo and VIMN Americas EVP and COO Juan Acosta

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Executive Director Alyce Robertson, VIMN Americas president Pierluigi Gazzolo and VIMN Americas Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Juan Acosta were present at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the media company's new global headquarters at 3 MiamiCentral, 161 N.W. 6th St.

After being located more than 20 years in Miami Beach, Acosta said VIMN Americas was ready for a change.

"We realized Miami Beach is old news, and now people are setting their sights on downtown," Acosta told the South Florida Business Journal. "Brightline also attracted our interest because its changing the game for commuters. Our employees are based all over the city and as a transportation hub, downtown Miami was better able to service their needs."

VIMN Americas currently has about 120 employees from Latin America, Spain, the Caribbean and Miami.

At the ribbon cutting, Suarez said VIMN's presence in downtown Miami will stimulate the local economy and create more career opportunities for South Florida residents.

"Miami is transitioning from being a Latin American gateway to a truly global city," Suarez said. "Having a company like Viacom as an anchor tenant of 3 MiamiCentral demonstrates that downtown Miami is becoming a center for international business."

The 25,000-square-foot space will serve as the base of operations for the company's portfolio of popular entertainment brands, including Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and MTV. VIMN Americas will focus on programming for audiences in Latin America, Canada and the U.S. Hispanic market.

The space is intended to celebrate Miami and its diversity of Latin American cultures, featuring touches such as a game room with dominoes-themed wallpaper, a "Vinyl Bar" that includes turntables and records, a new mothers room, and multiple lounge and meeting areas.

The VIMN Americas headquarters is located only a few blocks away from the company's recently opened Viacom International Studios (VIS), an 88,000-square-foot production facility.

Robertson said the organization is focusing on recruiting media, financial and tech companies to downtown Miami. The DDA reports there's been a small uptick in the number of media and entertainment companies occupying office space in the city's urban core, with those firms accounting for 6 percent of all new-to-market leases signed between 2013 and the first quarter of 2018.

VIMN Americas isn't the first company to swap Miami Beach for downtown Miami. In November 2018, the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) moved its global headquarters to 3 MiamiCentral, also citing the benefits of Brightline and the area's public transportation connections as a factor that led to the change.

Take a tour around VIMN Americas' new offices below!:

'SpongeBob SquarePants' Fan Launches Petition to Turn the Empire State Building Yellow to Honor Stephen Hillenburg

A fan of the Nickelodeon's beloved animated series SpongeBob SquarePants has started an online petition asking that the Empire State Building in New York City be lit up in yellow to remember and honor series creator Stephen Hillenburg, who passed away on Monday, November 26 following a battle with ALS.

The former marine biology teacher and cartoonist died aged 57, leading to a mass outpouring of grief from fans.

“As Nickelodeon Studios is based in New York, I felt it fitting to ask the Big Apple to show its love for Stephen by embracing SpongeBob's classic yellow glow,” fan Alison P. said in her e-petition on the Care2 website, which aims to get Hillenburg honored on a massive scale by lighting Manhattan's famous skyscraper in the worlds most famous sponge's iconic color.

Most recently, Nickelodeon's iconic SpongeBob SquarePants balloon floated its way through the city as part of Macy’s 2018 Thanksgiving Day Parade.

She said she started the petition as a way to honor Hillenburg and also to drive awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a degenerative neurological condition also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

In part, the petition reads: "SpongeBob SquarePants has taught his audience not only about friendship but helped to drive awareness around the importance of ocean conservation.

"It was Stephen's genius that was able to invent a character who could connect with kids and adults to deliver such an important message in a fun and charming way."

The Empire State Building was previously lit up in Nickelodeon Orange in September 2013 to commemorate the network's 10th annual Worldwide Day of Play.

Nickelodeon will be honoring Stephen on-air with a special SpongeBob SquarePants marathon dedicated to his memory on Sunday, December 2 between 12:00pm - 8:30pm ET/PT.

Viacom UK to Open the Doors of its London Offices for Workplace Week London 2018

London, UK - Marking an exciting first for Workplace Week London 2018, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) will be opening the doors of its London offices, presenting an exclusive opportunity to have a sneak peek look behind the scenes of the media brand powerhouse!

Located on a quiet back-street wedged between Camden High Street, Regent’s Canal and Kentish Town Road, visitors will struggle to miss the dazzling rainbow-coloured building occupying the former TV-AM site (just a stone’s throw from the tube station) that houses close to 1200 desks and is home to national broadcaster, Channel 5, as well as Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, BET and more.

Following the acquisition of Channel 5 in 2014, and the need to accommodate many more staff, VIMN UK is proud to show off a new look and feel, following a multi-million-pound extension. The design brief? To be anything but ordinary – and they nailed it.

Brimming with vibrancy and creativity, the bright bold frontage highlighting the sweeping curve of the building which mimics the crescent it spans, is enough to bring a smile to the coolest Camden Indie rocker. Intended to celebrate the pop industrial aesthetic and energy of its locality, a wall of rainbow-coloured fins graduating in colour on the outside shine red, orange, yellow and green when viewed from the west, and from lime green to darker greens to bright blue when viewed from the east. Winning some serious eco points, the office boasts a green living wall, photovoltaic panels and sedum roof.

The office is just as eye-catching on the inside! Stand-out features include modern, open-plan workstations and breakout areas, two atriums and a large, open flexible space for dining and whole-company meetings alongside the occasional gigs (very MTV!), as well as a series of studios, production rooms and recording and edit suites. Where else can you eat lunch with a giant MTV Moon Person swinging above you whilst sipping out of a keep cup watching A-list music and TV talent swishing past?

So, if you’ve ever wondered where the creative minds behind some of the world’s biggest brands, TV shows and characters reside (from SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Blind Date and Geordie Shore) take the tour this November (just after you have your picture taken in front of the Lady Gaga art installation in one of several break out areas….but you’ll have to get past the giant SpongeBob SquarePants statue first!)

Viacom International Media Networks Calls Digital Review

From CampaignLive:
Viacom International Media Networks calls digital review

By Sara Kimberley, campaignlive.co.uk, Thursday, 18 October 2012 10:30AM Be the first to comment

Viacom International Media Networks is seeking an agency to handle its digital account across major markets.

The Viacom division, which owns brands including MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Viva and Comedy Central, has approached agencies directly.

It is understood that the VIMN senior vice-president of digital, Philip O'Ferrall, is overseeing the process.

VIMN, formerly known as MTV Networks International, runs MTV operations outside of the US and has offices in London (which broadcasts the reality programme Geordie Shore), Berlin, Stockholm, Sydney, Tokyo, Milan, Madrid and Paris.

In the past, VIMN has worked with a number of agencies across its advertising and digital activity including Buzzman in Paris, Quiet Storm in the UK and Wieden & Kennedy São Paulo. The media owner has also relied on sponsorship activity to promote its channels.

Last month, the company was in the final stages of signing a commercial partner for the launch of a fashion-focused digital property called District MTV to go live online this month and on mobile later in the year.

District MTV is aimed at fashion-savvy 18- to 34-year-olds in the UK, Italy, France, Germany and Spain. It will make use of MTV's existing connections to pop culture, music and fashion.

VIMN confirmed the review to Campaign.

Nickelodeon's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" Star In "Gangnam Style" Parody Video With Vanilla Ice

What do you get if you cross Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo, Nickelodeon Star Rachel Crow, Manhattan, New York, Perez Hilton, Viacom offices'/rooms full of Nickelodeon employees, a Lady Gaga impersonator, Toys"R"Us in New York City, and NYC's Time Square with the South Korean rapper PSY and the North American rapper Vanilla Ice? "Gangnam Style" Turtle Power style! From the entertainment news website Entertainment Weekly's 'PopWatch' Pop Culture news column:
Go ninja, go ninja, go! Turtles and Vanilla Ice team up for 'Gangnam Style' parody -- VIDEO

Have you ever seen a turtle get down? Of course you have; like any nostalgia hound, you’ve watched this clip of Vanilla Ice's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze rap so many times that you could do the turtle-ography in your sleep. But you’ve never seen a video of men in giant turtle suits, rooms full of Nickelodeon employees, a Lady Gaga impersonator, and, for some reason, Perez Hilton doing PSY’s “Gangnam Style” dance while frolicking around New York City. Such a video existed only in your deepest, gnarliest fever dreams.

Until this morning, that is. Proof:

This [streaming online] video is either the greatest thing ever created by man or beast, or decisive evidence of an imminent apocalypse. There is no middle ground. Also, how does Vanilla Ice’s massive TMNT tattoo make you feel — pleasantly nostalgic, or deeply, deeply sad?
