Once again, Key Club International and its long-standing partner Nickelodeon teamed up to award Nickelodeon HALO grants to Key Clubs with inspiring projects to help people in their schools and communities. During its second round of the 2017-18 year, the Nickelodeon HALO Movement received outstanding applications from 63 Key Clubs.
Thanks to your votes, 10 Key Clubs have collectively earned US$13,451 to fund service projects ranging from raising money for rare disease research, to sending sanitation supplies to schools in Guatemala, to giving kids of all abilities the chance to play together.
The 2018 Nickelodeon HALO Movement finalists are:
Beaver Dam High School Key Club in Wisconsin, which will provide hospitals with books to distribute to parents of young children in a community where 40 percent of school-aged kids meet federal poverty guidelines, and where English-as-a-second-language education is needed.
Cypress Woods High School Key Club in Texas, whose members will fill backpacks with food for students in need at a nearby elementary school where 74 percent of students are economically disadvantaged.
Enloe Magnet High School Key Club in Raleigh, North Carolina, which plans to host a food-themed carnival to raise awareness and donations for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, an organization that feeds about 50,000 adults and children each month.
McLoughlin High School Key Club in Milton-Freewater, Oregon, which will use its grant to expand its “Friday Food Bags” program — which gives weekend meals to students in need — to two additional schools in its district.
Millburn High School Key Club in New Jersey, whose members will host a 5K “Color Run” to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and the American Cancer Society.
Mingus Union High School Key Club in Cottonwood, Arizona, which will use its grant money to provide low-income students with personal cleansing items and school supplies through its “Hope Chest.”
Sturgis Charter Public School East Key Club in Hyannis, Massachusetts, which is collaborating with Key Club partner Squads Abroad to send supplies to schools in Guatemala to help with sanitation, hygiene and nutrition.
Tecumseh High School Key Club in Michigan, which will host a dance to raise awareness of, and money for research of, airway defects in infants, such as laryngomalacia.
Waupun Area Junior/Senior High School Key Club in Wisconsin, whose members collect toys, books, art supplies, clothes and gas gift cards during the holidays for families of kids at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
Wheaton North High School Key Club in Illinois, which plans to add a wheelchair-accessible treehouse to the area’s “sensory playground” for kids of all abilities, with a special focus on playtime for kids with autism.
Congratulations to all of the 2018 finalists!

Key Club International and Nickelodeon Announce 2018 Nickelodeon HALO Movement Finalists
Nick Cannon Honors Nickelodeon, Reflects on Lupus Diagnosis at 2018 Make-A-Wish Gala
Nick Cannon, who got his start on Nickelodeon shows 'All That' and 'Kenan & Kel,' celebrated the network at Wednesday's charity event.
Nick Cannon returned to his roots on Wednesday night, hosting the annual Make-A-Wish Foundation Gala where Nickelodeon, the network the launched the star's career, was honored.
Cannon, who first found fame on early Nickelodeon hits like All That, Kenan & Kel and The Nick Cannon Show, also started his work with Make-A-Wish during that time, telling The Hollywood Reporter that, "my first Make-A-Wish experience was through Nickelodeon and I've been working with them for decades. Whenever Make-A-Wish calls, I answer."
Partnering with the charity, which makes a dream or "wish" come true for children with critical illnesses, has allowed Cannon to reflect on his own health struggles and battle with lupus, which he was diagnosed with in 2012.
"When you get in the room with some of these wish kids, it just puts everything in proper perspective for you," the former America's Got Talent host told the audience inside the Los Angeles event. "As someone who's been diagnosed with a serious illness as well and being able to connect with these kids, and they tell me their stories and I tell them my story and we talk about everything from boring hospital visits to being excited about life, it really touches me every single time."
Cannon has never lost touch with his Nickelodeon roots, becoming the Chairman of TeenNick, and regularly hosting shows and events for the network, including Lip Sync Battle Shorties and the network's annual Nickelodeon HALO Awards, which honors amazing kids for Helping and Leading Others (HALO). The star is also executive producing Nickelodeon's upcoming digital short-form series, Drop That Seat.
Aside from Nickelodeon, which was celebrated for fulfilling hundreds of wishes for children though TV show set visits, Kids' Choice Awards tickets and amusement park trips, chef Gordon Ramsay was also honored for his support of the foundation. Earlier this year, Ramsay teamed up with Make-A-Wish to grant wishes for 32 children in just one day.
The famed chef appeared via video message to accept his award, saying that working with the kids "highlight my day, and to change that doom and gloom and give them a time to have some fun, making the most incredible scrambled eggs or cooking a Beef Wellington, literally makes my year."
The gala, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, also included performances by Boyz II Men and OneRepublic, with frontman Ryan Tedder getting in on the charitable spirit. After numerous high-profile items had already been auctioned off, including World Series tickets, a set visit to The Flash and vacations to Maui and Jamaica, Tedder offered up a copy of Paul McCartney's latest album Egypt Station, signed by the former Beatle himself. The OneRepublic singer worked as a producer on McCartney's 2018 LP, and sold the album for $3,000 for Make-A-Wish, serving as an amateur auctioneer by taking bids from the audience. Tedder also dedicated his performance of hit I Lived to "all of those hours I spent watching Nickelodeon growing up."
Also in attendance at the 2018 Annual WISH Gala, held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Wednesday evening (October 24) in Beverly Hills, Calif. were Cannon's fellow Nick stars, including: Daniella Perkins (Knight Squad), Jack Griffo (The Thundermans), Owen Joyner (Knight Squad), Liza Koshy (Double Dare) and Baby Ariel (Bixler High Private Eye), plus social stars Alex Wassabi, Veronica and Vanessa Merrell, and This Is Us's Parker Bates. You can find red carpet photos from the event here on Just Jared Jr.!
“Big thanks to Make A Wish, Viacom, and Nickelodeon for such an inspiring night,” Jack wrote on Instagram the day after. “I was reminded of the countless young lives affected by cancer and how we have the opportunity to make these wishes come true for these awesome kids through Make A Wish.”
The event raised over $1 million for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which is celebrating its 35th year. For more information about Make-A-Wish America and to donate, please visit http://wish.org.

Viacom UK to Open the Doors of its London Offices for Workplace Week London 2018
London, UK - Marking an exciting first for Workplace Week London 2018, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) will be opening the doors of its London offices, presenting an exclusive opportunity to have a sneak peek look behind the scenes of the media brand powerhouse!
Located on a quiet back-street wedged between Camden High Street, Regent’s Canal and Kentish Town Road, visitors will struggle to miss the dazzling rainbow-coloured building occupying the former TV-AM site (just a stone’s throw from the tube station) that houses close to 1200 desks and is home to national broadcaster, Channel 5, as well as Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, BET and more.
Following the acquisition of Channel 5 in 2014, and the need to accommodate many more staff, VIMN UK is proud to show off a new look and feel, following a multi-million-pound extension. The design brief? To be anything but ordinary – and they nailed it.
Brimming with vibrancy and creativity, the bright bold frontage highlighting the sweeping curve of the building which mimics the crescent it spans, is enough to bring a smile to the coolest Camden Indie rocker. Intended to celebrate the pop industrial aesthetic and energy of its locality, a wall of rainbow-coloured fins graduating in colour on the outside shine red, orange, yellow and green when viewed from the west, and from lime green to darker greens to bright blue when viewed from the east. Winning some serious eco points, the office boasts a green living wall, photovoltaic panels and sedum roof.
The office is just as eye-catching on the inside! Stand-out features include modern, open-plan workstations and breakout areas, two atriums and a large, open flexible space for dining and whole-company meetings alongside the occasional gigs (very MTV!), as well as a series of studios, production rooms and recording and edit suites. Where else can you eat lunch with a giant MTV Moon Person swinging above you whilst sipping out of a keep cup watching A-list music and TV talent swishing past?
So, if you’ve ever wondered where the creative minds behind some of the world’s biggest brands, TV shows and characters reside (from SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Blind Date and Geordie Shore) take the tour this November (just after you have your picture taken in front of the Lady Gaga art installation in one of several break out areas….but you’ll have to get past the giant SpongeBob SquarePants statue first!)
